It could have been a totally different game if Shapovalov had taken the first set, which he was serving for at 5-4 up.

So many crazy unforced errors, but still an exciting player to watch. Definitely one for the future.

Very much a feel of master and apprentice about that match. Djokovic’s 41st grand slam semi, Shapovalov’s first, and it showed.
I think the Canadian was the better player overall. Had some huge serves, some huge winners, continually pressured Novak’s serve. Yet he still lost the match in straight sets. I think he’s a multiple grand slam winner of the future and he will have learned a lot there. Plenty of talent and when he gets the head for it and Novak retires he will be at the front of the queue. Would have been easy to chuck it and bagel the third after the way the first two went, but he kept it competitive.
Was vintage Djokovic. Sulks and seethes throughout, doesn’t seem to be happy with the way he’s playing, still sails through. He just has this presence and feeling of almost invincibility about him, was similar in the French last month. I think the Italian will test him more on Sunday but can’t see Djokovic not finding a way of winning it. He always seems to find a way to win it.

If anyone wants to see how pressure affects normal tennis players that aren’t Nadal, Djokovic or Federer should watch the women’s tennis final.

All about who is coping with the pressure at the right times.  Pliskova floundered the first set away from the occasion, Barry then goes a break up in the second set, see the winning line and promptly gets broken.

Pliskova gets broken at 5-5 and then Barry can’t serve it out.  What Shapovalov felt yesterday is absolutely normal.

3-1 Djokovic.  Both have been garbage.  Novak with three double faults through his first two service game and Berretini an unforced error machine.

Novak with the reset and reels off his next service game to love to end 4-1.

Fantastic stuff from Berrettini there, winning it on a tie break from 5-2 down. We are going to get a match here for sure.
Still think Novak is the favourite to win it, he was two sets down to Tsitsipas in the French open final last month before winning it in five after all.

I don’t recall a player making 19 unforced errors in a set and still taking a set from Novak.

Sums up the level they are both playing at. Both have a lot of upswing in their game to greatly improve.
