Government spending on Union flags soars under Boris Johnson | The Independent

£163k is f**k all to be honest but made me laugh at their jingoism.

And the flags are more than likely made in China.

Posted this elsewhere before, but following a small but swift upwelling of pro-indy sentiment down here, this looks like some desperate propaganda

I reckon any displays of the ol' Apron are now having the opposite effect, especially as our Cambrian cousins' flag isn't even represented - and I believe I'm not the only Scot curious to see what the rUK flag looks like with no blue in it.

They'll probably have ceded the six counties to the EU for access to financial markets by that time so it'll probably look like a st george cross

Presumably the same rules apply in Scotland. Not in NI though.

UK Government demands Union Jack ‘must always’ be flown in ‘superior position’ to Welsh flag

They should do a tiny little one the size of a stamp.

Could be wrong but I think it's illegal to fly the EU flag now, but the Stars and Stripes are perfectly fine.

England will always have an identity problem until they stop conflating UK/Britain with England. Perfectly highlighted in this article today in the Guardian were they talk about the riots in England 10 years ago in terms of UK and Britain.

You hit the nail on the head

England has a great identity old and new but its as weighed down by the union as Scotland is.

Independence for Scotland and a united Ireland wont just rejuvenate Scotland and Ireland it will be the best thing to happen to England too. England will be able to reinvent and rediscover itself and it will thrive too

No, the EU flag still flies at Holyrood.  The UK is still a Council of Europe member and they use the same flag as the EU.

driving back up from deepest Ayrshire earlier, at the A737 Howood junction someone has planted a massive UJ (or whatever, it's not on a ship etc etc) in their garden. it flutters by the edge of the road. Its the biggest UJ I think I have seen in what appears to be a private garden. Someone appears to have been triggered by something.....

UK government spends more than £163,000 on union flags in two years

Not desperate at all.

There's a 'Brexit Towers' on the road down to Peebles  from Edinburgh. Turns out it's the abode of some fanny competing in an inconsequential microminority sport in Tokyo.

Ironically, the majority of folk in Scotland probably have more in common with the majority in the rest of the UK in thinking that this is laughable behaviour. I’d imagine your average person in England would cross the street to avoid the kind of feral who feels the need to proclaim, “we’re in political union - look, I’ve even put a huge flag in my garden to prove I don’t want to be independent. Do you like me now?

Britnattery in Scotland really has lurched into classic Irish unionism, and just as with angry and aggressive NI unionists, most of the people to whom they’re trying to prove their loyalty are far too normal to want anything to do with them.

Always amusing when the Nationalists moan about flags. Guy down the road from me that has saltires in his garden STILL has the "Yes" sticker on his window. He is a fat mutant looking stupid b*****d too.

Certainly a much better example than the actual government spending money from the public purse on flagshagging

Yeah perhaps they should be more resourceful and just pitch in for projectors to shine big flags and gimmicky messages on buildings like the SNP do!
