Glasgow Sub Crawl.

Before anyone gets the wrong idea, I've been in the Smiddy in Partick many times and I actually quite like the place, but the Dolphin has a reputation for your more "bomb throwery" clientele.

That and it stinks of shit.

I'd have had it the other way around. The clientele that is, not the smell of shit.

I like my boozers to have an element of scum about them sometimes though. I'm not so inclined as to just walk into a pub for a beer just because I was passing nowadays though but when I lived in Glasgow I would always do it.

All you need to do is walk in the door; mission accomplished.

I like the Smiddy. That stretch of Dumbarton Road has some good pubs on it.

The Quarter Gill is pretty good as well after they did it up a few years ago. The Ettrick has changed name to something daft i think. The Rosevale is a good old fashioned boozer as well, albeit another one that the knicker wetters would want to avoid on match days.

The Rosevale is Walter Smith's place? Not been in yet, but fancy seeing what it's like. Looks decent.

Always got the impression that the place just up from it, I think called The Windsor, was the place to avoid there.

How did you know who was who on the first subcrawl?

DId you all wear name badges, or did you sit in a circle and do an icebreaker?

Everyone did this highly unusual and unorthodox thing of shaking hands and introducing themselves by first name. It was groundbreaking. I'd never seen the like before.

Mrs M was easy to spot.

I knew quite a few already, either because I'd met them or seen them on Facebook. After that it was just a process of elimination. And no, I don't mean I started to eliminate people.

There should be a P&B subcrawl where everyone wears luche libre masks, those Mexican wrestler ones.

Once someone guesses who you are you have to take your mask off and then whoever keeps their mask on longest wins a prize.

Completed my first full one last weekend and it's cracking. Definitely wouldn't do it on a Rangers matchday though. Also start no later than 1. My pals all dicked about time wise so didn't leave St Enoch till 2.40. By time made it to Cowcaddens had to rush and after reaching Buchanan St had to walk down to St Enoch to close the circle. Below is how we did the circle.

St Enoch - Crystal Palace. Plastic Wetherspoons but have large ale choice so wanted to start there.

Bridge Street - The Laurieston. Can't not go here can you? Decent pub.

Skipped West St and Shields Rd as f**k all there.

Kinning Park - The Bellrock. Bit cramped and iffy locals. Least favourite pub of the day.

Cessnock - The Censington. Pleasent enough boozer. Nothing stands out.

Ibrox - The Loudon. Great time had in here. Spoke to staff and said on non matchdays they open 12-7 pretty much just for subcrawls. Imagine it must get rammed on matchdays despite its big open floor.

Govan - Brechin Bar. Old school pub and feels out of the 70's but dug it. Certainly has character.

Partick - Stumps. Wanted to go into Dreoch but was too busy. Stumps is alright but cramped as f**k.

Kelvinhall - Sparklehorse. Indie boozer that I'm fond of. Would've gone to Three Judges but word is they dont like subcrawls after 7.

Hillhead - Tennants. I dont care much for Ashton Lane and the basement bar was open. Good atmosphere as per.

Kelvinbridge - The Doublet. Been plenty before and always decent.

St Georges Cross - The Hug and Pint. Another indie West End style bar. Dig it though.

Cowcaddens - Universal. Never been before but intend on returning. Good bar that'll have something for everyone.

Buchanan St - The Vale. Kinda odd feel to it but in a good way.

Returned to St Enochs at 12.30 when every pub had closes so had to close the circle in the casino.

So you didn't do a full one then.

Aye, his boy used to work behind the bar I think. One of the best pints of Guinness in Partick in there.

I used to work in the Rosevale, although I can say categorically I'm not Walter Smith's son.

Tbh, from my memory of it (and we're talking 15 years ago), it's certainly not bedecked in pictures of the Queen and orange sashes. In fact you wouldn't know it was a "Rangers" pub. Except the day of a Scottish Cup Final where Celtic were playing, when they decided to put on a video of "Rangers' 300 Best Goals" instead of the match.
