Asad Shah

Will he survive for up to 27 years in the Bar L?

A lot of convenience store lovers banged up in there.

eta.... Can't believe the numbers of family and friends who travelled up from Bradford to voice support for the evil, murderous b*****d.

Religion has a lot to answer for.

Some scenes outside the court.

I find it hard to agree with the judge in this case with regard to respecting the religious views of others.  Am I supposed to respect Ahmed's views?

In that you'd be legally and morally obliged not to stick a knife in the poor man for holding them, yes.

It does - good and bad. Sometimes I believe good people use religion as a means to do good things and bad folk the same. What happened to Mr Shah was a result of religious and cultural forces.

Unreal but not surprising unfortunately.

Another f#cked up country where religion plays too big a part. The combination of religion and masses of poorly educated makes for a perfect storm.

Pakistan is the most religiously fucked up country on the planet and they have nuclear weapons. You've got basically liberal minded, Western educated political leaders pandering to the fundamentalist murdering bigots for votes and to avoid being assassinated.

There are several Muslim-majority countries where Mahershala Ali’s Oscar win for his role in Moonlight won’t be celebrated. That’s because he belongs to the minority Ahmadi sect.

In countries such as Malaysia and Pakistan, Ahmadis are reviled by hardline Sunni Muslim groups as heretics, apostates and even infidels.
.
So much so that Maleeha Lodhi, Pakistan’s envoy to the United Nations, deleted a tweet on Monday that noted Ali was the first Muslim actor to win an Academy Award. The tweet, however, was spotted by eagle eyed Twitter users who saved screen grabs.

You could have just as easily stopped the paragraph there, with Israel at the start instead.
