But if you look at the shape of a typical monitor / laptop screen, having the task bar at the bottom takes up more space. Sticking it to the side frees up more "real estate". You're welcome btw. I agree the phrase "real estate" is somewhat wanky, but the point remains you've got more room on your screen if you stick the task bar down the side, especially on a widescreen monitor.
