Claudia Gentile Posted Monday at 17:37 Share Posted Monday at 17:37 Quote Thistle manager Kris Doolan said: “Kanayo is a player who we’ve been trying to sign for most of the summer so to get this deal done is really satisfying. I think any of our fans who watched our games against Airdrieonians last season will recognise why we’ve been so keen to bring him in. “He’s an exceptional one-on-one defender, he reads the game brilliantly and I think as last season went on he became more and more threatening as an attacking prospect. “Making the sort of impact he did in your first full season as a senior player is incredibly impressive and now we’re looking forward to seeing how he uses the experience he earned at Airdrieonians to push on and be a great player for us here this year.”
oneteaminglasgow Posted Monday at 17:39 Share Posted Monday at 17:39 Does sort of suggest that Nilsson was a panic buy when we thought we wouldn’t get Megwa but oh well, we now have 2 actual right backs which is nice.
Mr November Posted Monday at 17:40 Share Posted Monday at 17:40 Fair play. Best right back in the league last season. Not as strong an attacking threat as McMillan, though he has pace and will get forward, but for his age he’s so good 1v1 and is a quick learner too. I’m guessing he’ll start ahead of the other loanee right back Thistle signed?

I'm sure people on here said he also played further forward for Brighton u23s which would be nice as it's another option that isn't Chalmers.

Probably see one or two go out on loan now. I'm guessing Lyon and Wasiri. I don't think Nilsson has been much better than the big yin.
I Clavdivs Posted Monday at 17:51 Share Posted Monday at 17:51 According to Wiki Megwa can play " Right back and Wing back plus right sided centre back in a back 4 formation and left and right sided centre back in a back three formation". Good piece of business .
Nightmare Posted Monday at 17:54 Share Posted Monday at 17:54 We saw last year that he’s clearly a good player at this level, so a pleasing signing. Considering Nilsson hasn’t done much of note since signing, I imagine Megwa will be straight into the starting lineup. As suggested above by POTM, we might even try Nilsson higher up the pitch given that he can play there and we’re still pretty short in the (available) wingers department.

Lyon and Sayers would be my guess, and maybe MacKenzie as well.

Thrilled with this signing as I so far don’t rate Nilson at all, to light weight and scared to go forward with the ball at his feet (altho early days obviously). Lyon I would ship out on loan immediately but sayers should be kept incase Milne gets injured and I honestly prefer Mackenzie in the midfield to Crawford and so far this season stanway to. Would like to see him start over both next week infact as I thought both were absolutely rubbish on Saturday. As for other loans I’m not sure who else I would be willing to let go apart from maybe wasiri as well. Don’t need him as right back cover now as we have 2 and worst case muirhead can do anything wasiri would as a right back. With mcbeth seemingly a cb now we have 4 cbs anyway so to me wasiri has nothing to offer.

Sayers could be a shout. Megwa has played left back I think.

Kirkcaldybanjo Posted Monday at 18:16 Share Posted Monday at 18:16 Thats a great signing. Wish he’d have come to Kirkcaldy.
oneteaminglasgow Posted Monday at 18:19 Share Posted Monday at 18:19 Based on that challenge cup game, Wasiri is (currently) a better centre half than Sayers. I’d also say that, while we do have quite a few centre halves, Ashcroft can’t seem to stay fit and Muirhead is always good for a few suspensions so we’re not too far off being short there again. Especially if we’re going with three at the back at times.

JagsCG Posted Monday at 19:16 Share Posted Monday at 19:16 Very good signing, someone we’ve been wanting all summer and I imagine there’s few clubs at our level who wouldn’t take him after last season. Pressure intensifies for the management and players to put a run together and get up the league now. Think it’s fair to say Doolan has been well backed this season.
Fuctifano Posted Monday at 19:24 Share Posted Monday at 19:24 Obviously on paper a good signing but does the fact we've gone back in for him after signing Nilsson mean that we don't think Nilsson is up to it or better as a winger? Certainly hasn't looked like the latter so far... Hard to see a way back for Wasiri now as 4th choice right sided CB and 3rd choice RB. Don't really see much point in loaning him down a league for 3 months so guess he'll stay as cover until January and then agree a release unless we're knackered with injuries. Was surprised Lyon and MacKenzie didn't leave on loan (or permanently in Lyons case) though I rate Zander higher than Stanway. While Nilsson hasn't been great, I still think the midfield is our biggest problem area - I'm not saying we should be trying to sign Grimshaw as the squad is already bloated enough but surely to f**k we must have an idea of what combination of 3 works best.

I would do anything to have grimshaw over Crawford. Still don’t remotely understand why we signed him. Offers absolutely nothing and can’t do anything that all of our other midfielders can’t also do. Such a strange signing in my opinion. No need when we had Zander, banzo, stanway and turner already who can do what he does but no specialist defensive midfielder.
