Double Winning St Johnstone FC Thread

If Ryan McGowan has been told he can leave, part of that decision could be in the belief he'll be easier to fix up with another club, given how well-travelled he is.

But for all he's been a better signing than I anticipated and actually had some good games in midfield, he's been soft in challenges against both Hearts and County that resulted in goals.

I mean, Crawford will definitely be one of the players, but good luck trying to shift him on the wage he earns. He isn't walking away from his contract without either us subsidising it (loan) or some set of mugs being prepared to offer him the security of two years full-time. Will emphasise though that the contract he's on is in no way his fault.

I guess he was just part of the "rebuilding" process...

If he thinks Sprangler can give us the defensive stuff/physical stuff McGowan does, while also actually wanting to have the ball at his feet, then it feels a good "swap" to do really on paper.

Have to agree - McGowan far from the most deserving to be punted but probably the most realistic to achieve with reduced payoff.

Also - the club official twitter did report he was in the squad on Saturday and that Gordon replaced him - so the news article above is odd, if it does capture Maclean's actual comments.

Adds even more confusion to the "Gordon was left out" as well? 🤷‍♂️

Making last minute changes to bring him into the squad after deciding and probably telling him you're leaving him out seems an odd move.

Surely it can't be a clerical mistake as the press are telling everyone Gordon was dropped from the squad.

Our starting line up is getting close to possibly being entirely new.

Mitov

Olufunwa - McClelland - ? - Robinson

Costelloe - Turner-Cooke - Sprangler - Smith - ?

Jephcott

A CB and Winger away

Close to an entire team of non-Scots. Wasn’t Considine the only starting Scottish player on Saturday?

I don’t know for sure, but can’t imagine we’ve ever picked 11 non-Scottish players in a starting team before?

Robinson played for Scotland at youth level.

Born in England but not sure if it's one of those eligible through grandparent or whether most of his family are Scottish 🤷‍♂️

Depends on how you define Robinson, but aye, cant think of any point in my lifetime when we'll have had none.

Lomas season felt the most likely at a guess for when we'd be close, but cant think of a defence that wouldnt include a Scot.

Didn’t realise that about Robinson. All our left back options are Scottish so probably not going to happen…

unless we go back to playing James Brown at left back.

Not as if anyone going to get into the Scotland squad whilst playing for saints anyway so not too bothered

Question all...

There has been a lot of chat the last few days about CD. A common theory is that whilst with us he was applying for quite a few other roles at the same time.

Does anyone know of what specific jobs he applied for? Would be interesting to see who in the wider football world was considered a better appointment, whilst CD's stock was high.

Rumours he’d applied for Preston and another lower league English side id heard.
