There must be more jobs created than lost. Not in the oil industry though. It's still suffering just now. strichener
That can't be right surely millions have been laid off in the oil industry? ? There has been an increase in the jobless of 56% in Aberdeen City and 92% in the Shire. Also estimated to be a 15% reduction in population in Aberdeen.
topcat(The most tip top)
Also estimated to be a 15% reduction in population in Aberdeen. Which partially explains employment and unemployment both falling simultaneously.
strichener
Which partially explains employment and unemployment both falling simultaneously. Yes. If we assume that the majority of these people were workers then the actual rise in unemployment in the NE is dwarfed by this exodus.

But at least some of that Exodus will be composed of foreigners so Brexit is working already

Hence the 'meh' comment. It's good news but not great. Not the crash that everyone was predicting though. That may (or may not) be to come. More good news for manufacturing though. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-37787890

I would still say it is far too early to judge the impact of the vote though. On the Nissan thing in the link, it would be interesting to see exactly what assurances they were provided with. Quote Carlos Ghosn, Nissan chief executive, said government "support and assurances" allowed it to decide to make the two new cars in Sunderland.
