Shandon Par
My wife's granny is from Newton Mearns, though she has lived in England for about 80 years now. She's a miserable boot. Hope this helps.
Hedgecutter
Any Newton Mearns experiences? Lots of traffic lights. Thank God for the M77 bypass. (I used to go to Kilmarnock pretty much monthly on the old road, but since the thing's been built I've probably only been a handful of times going to Ayr and Stranraer away on the bus. Typical, grrrr)
RH33
My partner lives there. It's fine with good schools.

Dee Man
There have definitely been better alias'/aliases/aliaii. Only starting threads about places to live is a bit rubbish.

cmontheloknow
Some parts of it are among the wealthiest in Scotland: http://statistics.gov.scot/slice/choropleth?dataset=http%3A%2F%2Fstatistics.gov.scot%2Fdata%2Fscottish-index-multiple-deprivation&http%3A%2F%2Fpurl.org%2Flinked-data%2Fcube%23measureType=http%3A%2F%2Fstatistics.gov.scot%2Fdef%2Fmeasure-properties%2Fdecile&http%3A%2F%2Fpurl.org%2Flinked-data%2Fsdmx%2F2009%2Fdimension%23refPeriod=http%3A%2F%2Freference.data.gov.uk%2Fid%2Fyear%2F2012&http%3A%2F%2Fstatistics.gov.scot%2Fdef%2Fdimension%2FsimdDomain=http%3A%2F%2Fstatistics.gov.scot%2Fdef%2Fconcept%2Fsimd-domain%2Foverall#slice_map Then choose East Renfrewshire. It has the one poorer area to contrast with Meanskirk (the 'upmarket footballer' and high flyer's locale). hellbhoy
Decent and snobby mostly and if your unlucky you'll move next door to a drug baron. A few of them live there, dodgy feckers.

Hillonearth
The Mearns itself is nice, though there's that big bland swathe of new-build commuterland out past Patterton station that the estate agents and people who've bought houses there call Newton Mearns but isn't really.

They're also trying to reassign parts there and along stewarton road to Barrhead high catchment. Which isn't going down too well.

Me n the mrs bought our first house together, in Johnstone. Would you believe, next to a drug baron.

There are a few, they just don't advertise it. Let's just say they are legitimate business men importing exotic goods.
