Ron Aldo
Confirmed according to the BBC - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53911105. "Forward Lionel Messi has asked to leave Spanish giants Barcelona this summer. The Argentina international, 33, sent a fax to the club on Tuesday saying he wishes to exercise a clause in his contract, allowing him to leave for free with immediate effect." If that's correct, he's a free agent. One of the highest paid players in the world and he uses a fax machine?

Theroadlesstravelled
Burofax is trending as people are confused why Messi is using a fax machine.
Michael W
Sending a fax is excellent passive-aggressive behaviour, tbf. Short of sending a letter via second class post, I'm not sure how he could have delivered his decision with more contempt. Theroadlesstravelled
Suarez might be leaving for Inter Miami. Messi might be on his way there as well.

AberdeenHibee
Greatest player ever to grace the game. Hope he ends up at a club worthy of his name (so PSG, Inter Miami et al can get to ****). Part of me would love to see him at Juve, as the thought of him at Cristiano Ronaldo combining powers is incredible. Failing that, really hope he ends up in the English Premier League so I can go see him play. It is a crying shame what has happened to him at Barcelona - was written in the stars that he would be the most famous of all one-club players, but the club have nobody else other than themselves to blame for this. Messi deserves to go out on a high and Barca will just tarnish his reputation due to the massive mess throughout the club. Nah its a legal requirement, a transfer request has to be submitted in writing. What do you want him to do email them? Snail mail? That's the correct procedure.

Beyond belief fax hasn't yet died out.

He used a company called burofax, it's pretty much their version of recorded delivery(yes I looked it up)

JMDP
Will be interesting to see how it all pans ot next year if Messi leaves and the Barca exodus happens as planned. The list of unsellable players was a strange one, you have to assume that will be the core of the team Koaman builds on - wonder who he will add. For all the talk of it leaving a great opportunity for a more competitive title race next year, Real have said they won't really add to the squad (although a fully fit Hazard and Jovic might feel like new additions), Atleti will have to sell to buy (can't afford the 15m for Marc Roca at present) and Thomas Partey would be a huge loss should he go. Add that to Sevilla losing Reguilon who was outstanding last year, Valencia being a clown car outfit and Sociedad losing Odegaard and you could say that no one is looking like they will improve much. Villareal getting Coquelin and Parejo for next to nothing is the only really good business I see so far. Interesting summer to come.
GNU_Linux
Malaga have announced plans to begin a "collective dismissal procedure" that could see the Spanish club sack half of their first team squad. The second-tier side went into administration in February, bringing an end to the reign of controversial owner Abdullah bin Nasser Al Thani and fuelling speculation that they would be unable to complete the season due to financial mismanagement.Malaga eventually escaped relegation to Spain's third, non-professional tier earlier this month, finishing 14th in the second division, just two points clear of the drop."As of today, the management of Malaga Club de Fútbol S.A.D has communicated to the squad its intention to begin a collective dismissal procedure," the club said in a statement on Monday. "The club has had to make some tough decisions in recent months."On this occasion, the restructuring will directly impact the men's first team. This new restructuring joins the economic plan that aims to get the Club out of the complicated financial situation which it continues to be immersed in, in spite of recent efforts."Administrators held a series of face-to-face meetings with top earners on Monday morning, a day after the team had played their first preseason friendly ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.Players were told that the club was implementing an "ERE" or collective dismissal plan, a mechanism under Spanish law which allows a company to reduce its workforce in certain circumstances. In May, Malaga announced plans to lay off workers due to the financial situation, while players would not be affected. On the pitch, Malaga have been in a steady decline since reaching the Champions League quarterfinals in 2013 with a team boasting big-name players such as Isco, Joaquin and Julio Baptista. At that point there were already signs of financial problems in the wake of Qatari businessman Al Thani's 2010 takeover, which deepened before Malaga's eventual relegation from La Liga in 2018.In January, La Liga president Javier Tebas warned that the club would have to bring in €2 million from player sales to avoid punishment -- including a possible administrative relegation -- for incurring debts owed to players and Spanish tax authorities.
