That's my opinion anyway. He's getting attacked on one side for being too PC and one side for being a dog whistling racist. I hesitate to judge.

NotThePars
A 'race to the bottom' in what way ? Off the top of my head: gutting of worker’s rights, wage stagnation, unions decimated, brutal treatment of asylum seekers in their detention and deportation? These things will get worse after Brexit under a Tory government but these things already existed and were acted upon since Thatcher took power.

Workers have received more rights in the EU through measures such as the Working Hours Directive than they'd receive (or had) within the CDU. The French and Germans have much stronger unions and workers' rights within the EU. So to link the domestic politics of the UK with the EU in that way is a fatuous argument.

I don’t disagree with that. My issue was that the race to the bottom isn’t going to start with Brexit. The Tories, and New Labour, have found dozens of ways to actively make people’s lives worse for the last 30 years regardless of our EU membership.

Brexit removes the only supranational barrier to the UK turning itself into an absolute shithouse, this is a perfectly straightforward concept. No amount of 'Aye but what about Tony Blair!!11!!!' whataboutery changes that fact.
