Despite the irony, setting up a distribution warehouse inside the EU is the best solution for a lot of these companies. It would be more shocking to find out they've only just started giving that advice.

I;ll bet the DIT advice wasn't something that was ever suggested would be a requirement prior to the referendum or a possibility during negotiations. The whole thing is a shit-show and examples of fish exports or indeed something costing £2k to deliver when previously it cost £20 would have brought down Governments in days gone by. Incompetence and f**k-ups are now a daily occurrence with HMG and everyone is either just dulled by it or are content with it - how many head in the sand Keeping Up Appearances types still come out with "their doing their very best in very difficult and unique circumstances".....

It's been pretty obvious that a lot of people thought a free trade deal meant things would carry on as before, yet there was never any reason to think being outside the the SM and CU wouldn't create significant barriers to trade with the EU. I don't think a competent government would be able to change that reality. Edited January 24, 2021 by bendan

Wasn’t there a message on a bus saying that if we got Brexit companies to set up European subsidiaries so they could keep trading effectively, or have I got that wrong? -
