Hopefully the club are holding out for the SFA investigations into his match betting to go against him, he can then be sacked without a pay off! Clutching at straws perhaps but that would be the ideal outcome for Rangers and Joseph to head their separate ways.

Surely that still wouldn't constitute the gross misconduct that would enable Rangers to simply sack him.  The fact that Rangers did not take that action against other players found guilty of worse betting offences, would be significant here, would it not?

I'd imagine it's more likely that if Rangers hold out for longer, they're hopeful that Barton will feel forced to settle for a smallish pay-off in fear that if he lingers further yet, his career will just slip out of sight altogether.

Given his age, time is not on the player's side in this one, unless he's prepared to simply retire for what he feels he's due.

More likely behind the scenes they've found someone (Cough, Burnley) to take him off their hands in January and are just keeping him suspended until then.

The club, the CLUB!  Where have you been?!

You're getting confused.  It's the company that enters into contracts.

Fix your post and we'll say no more about it.  It'll be our little secret.

Yours, ever helpfully.

Yeah but he'd still be under contract. Why would Burnley pay a fee for him when they picked him up on a free transfer a season or two ago?

I'm sure they offered him a contract for this season but he turned it down due to the 20k a week* Rangers were offering.

Maybe The Rangers are happy to cut their losses and let him go for free to get him off the wage bill.
