Think what people are pointing out is that there is a bit of a double standard involved in only criticizing Trump for these kind of moves when the United States and other western states have been doing some morally questionable things for a long time. Trump has taken the unsavoury sentiments that have been pandered to by a lot of politicians on the supposed left as well as on the right (e.g. Gordon Brown, "British jobs for British workers") and pushed it towards its logical conclusion. Hopefully, Slavoj Zizek is correct in seeing this as a way to provoke the backlash that is needed to push things in a better direction:

DI Bruce Robertson
"The most important thing to discuss is how we keep this country from falling into the same trap that happened to parts of Europe, where you have a permanent inter-generational problem of Islamic radicalism and it becomes a routine feature of life in those countries. How do we keep that from happening in America? If we don't change the way we think about immigration, if we don't think about how we screen, vet, and approach the entry process, that will happen here. That is a certainty if we don't take strong action." Trump's top policy advisor and speech writer in an interview on Fox. It's great that we have people in power who are actually thinking about these issues. About how we have an immigration system that benefits Americans first. How do you define "American"? 1st Gen, 2nd Gen........8th Gen? Or if you are a conservative, white, bible thumping racist, does that qualify you?If so, please send a stamped, self addressed envelope, we've a few here I'd like to see the back of.

NotThePars
Slavoj Zizek is a contrarian for contrarian's sake and is going full blown fash just to stay relevant. But, aye, I made the point earlier that there is a double standard. The liberal centre don't have their hands clean whatsoever and outlets such as Buzzfeed would put Pravda to shame with their cheerleading for the US regime when it suits them. That doesn't mean that what Trump is doing isn't utterly vile and staggeringly stupid though. Cerberus
Not really a Trump thing but visa reform legislation has been introduced to, amongst other things double the minimum salary for H-1B visa holders to $130,000. H-1B is the temporary work permit visa. In theory it's meant to stop companies exploiting low paid foreign workers at the expense of Americans. It affects India the most but if approved a career in the U.S. for most just got a lot harder.

American is a nationality, not an ethnic group. Completely separate. Not allowing multigenerational Islamic extremism to take root in America is good for all ethnic groups here, except for Islamic extremists who have political goals of world domination of course. 10 hours ago, Granny Danger said: If she was sacked because she was seen to be taking a political stance that is fair enough, though, as you say, the language is outrageous.* If she was sacked because she believed that what was happening was in breach of the law that is a totally different situation. In her position she had an obligation to ensure the law was being followed. * Here's a prediction - what most of us would previously have classed as outrageous language from a US President and his staff will soon become the norm. The executive order was approved by the legal team at her own department before being issued. Her statement on not enforcing the order mentioned no legal statute that would prevent enforcement. What it did was talk about "fairness," which has nothing to do with the law and is open to interpretation. Nameless lefty bureaucrat who was going to be out of a job as soon as a Trump AG is confirmed by the Senate saw a chance to make a name for herself and set up a new career path. Disgraceful conduct and a good reason why civil service protections are anti-democratic. 9 hours ago, welshbairn said: The Suspected Quebec City Mosque Attacker Was a Right-Wing Troll and Trump Fan Again, multicultural society seems to be proceeding as the utopians predicted. Went and tried to look up any history of religious murders in Canada. I'm sure there might be a few here or there through history, but it seems like almost all involve Muslims as perpetrators or victims. Looks like religious murders are going to be a permanent fixture of Canadian life now. Some people might have predicted that would be the case if Muslims moved to Canada in large numbers.
