Lost in the more salacious gossip but Trump is handing over the running of all his business interests to his two sons.

He won't discuss anything about the businesses with them.  Hands up who believes this?

Anyone?

He's also not going to release his tax returns.

CNN's riposte (including excellent use of the Supras adverbial in the last sentence):

Quote

CNN’s decision to publish carefully sourced reporting about the operations of our government is vastly different than Buzzfeed’s decision to publish unsubstantiated memos. The Trump team knows this. They are using Buzzfeed’s decision to deflect from CNN’s reporting, which has been matched by the other major news organizations. We are fully confident in our reporting. It represents the core of what the First Amendment protects, informing the people of the inner workings of their government; in this case, briefing materials prepared for President Obama and President-elect Trump last week. We made it clear that we were not publishing any of the details of the 35-page document because we have not corroborated the report’s allegations. Given that members of the Trump transition team have so vocally criticized our reporting, we encourage them to identify, specifically, what they believe to be inaccurate.

It's a bit difficult to know what he could do tbf. He hardly owns any of the buildings and companies he pretends he does, thus not releasing his tax returns. He rents out the Trump name. I'm not sure how he could create a wall between himself and his own name.

He should, and get the Mexicans to pay for it.

More seriously regardless of the difficulties he should divest himself of all business interests and put the proceeds into a blind trust.  Might be more difficult given the nature of his business but the principle is clear, he knew this before he ran for office.

Trump thinks he's above convention, I'm looking forward to him learning over the coming months that he will only get away with so much.

The FT did a 3 part investigation that indicated Trump was selling property to Russians for two or three times their value, ie a money laundering scam. I think that is more likely to give him problems than the pishy hoors. Although we won't find out about them until Putin wants him gone.

"Let me tell you, you take on the intelligence community, they have six ways from Sunday to get back at you. So, even for a practical, supposedly hard-nosed businessman, he is being really dumb to do this."

Senate Democrat leader Chuck Schumer just recently during a tv interview.

Regarding Trumps business:

1. If we allow that he runs a healthy business with billions more in assets than liabilities, which I know many don't believe, would it be possible to liquidate the Trump Organization within a few months without putting it into bankruptcy? Perhaps somebody who knows more about business can answer this.

2. There has to be some kind of medium between screwing over your shareholders, employees, and family by recklessly liquidating your business operations and still ensuring that potential conflicts of interest are minimized. If such a middle ground is not allowed you are basically walling off a large portion of the successful people in this country from direct participation in politics. Of course no one should ever suggest that this is what professional politicians and the media actually desire.

If he just owned property he could put his portfolio into a blind trust managed by outsiders. His wealth depends on leasing his name which makes it a very unusual problem. He can't just sell the Trump brand. I don't think he thought he had a chance in hell of winning, so I doubt he thought about it much, till now. Every decision he makes is going to be scrutinised as to whether he has personal interests at stake, especially where he has interests abroad. Having his sons running the business and pretending they won't talk about it is farcical.

P.S. He's said to owe $300 million to Deutsche Bank, who in turn are in the middle of being fined $7.2 Billion by the Department of Justice. How's about that for leverage?

If someone tells you a state is building a dossier to black mail you do you

a) Say you are taking the allegations seriously but not yet passing judgment and have contacted the FBI to ensure this is correctly investigated or

b) Declare said state your bestest buddy and all the allegations utter balls.
