Democrats are going to Democrat, aren’t they? They’ll try to recreate Chicago ‘68 and implode, with Bernie Bros flinging misogynistic crap at, oh, let’s say, Harris for two years.

Assuming he has no skeletons, what they need to do is go all in on O’Rourke, who is doing great stuff in that box-of-frogs state of Texas.

He is on the right wing of the Democratic Party so stands a reasonable chance.

He's got that drunk driving thing where he caused an accident and a witness claimed he tried to leave the scene before the cops arrived.

Any female candidate will have to put up with misogynistic crap. If Biden is serious one would suspect that he could make a serious run, especially given the context of him not running in 2016.

Biden will end up getting #metoo’d and O’Rourke has a shite voting record and doesn’t seem to have any concrete beliefs. Warren is probably better than both with her politics but has already been seen off once by Trump and came across as genuinely rattled. If Bernie runs it’s going to be a vicious campaign especially since the establishment Dem supporters are already having brainworm influenced meltdowns over any and all criticism of Beto.

Right. Warren and Bernie - and I’m a Bernie guy, largely - need to step the hell away from the mic.

The pay-as-you-go rules, commonly known as “pay-go,” would require Congress to offset any increased spending with equal cuts or revenue increases elsewhere. The provision is contained in a larger package of rules for the incoming 116th Congress, which convenes on Thursday.

The fact that Democrats are using their newfound power to stress fiscal responsibility is baffling to some progressives. Fiscal responsibility was hardly mentioned in the 2018 elections, whereas big legislative ideas ― which could be harmed by pay-go rules ― were popular with voters.

With the left on the rise the Democratic leadership have decided to copy the EU and legislate new fiscal rules that entrench neoliberalism and inequality.

Can I just say that a probable troll who spends a significant amount of time posting shite on a politics side section of a forum, where football fans dabble their political interests a wee bit is about as sad a thing as I can think of.

I mean, even if you are a proper troll, what is there for you here?

It's politics chat. The EU has fiscal rules and now the USA is going down that route.

What on earth is trolling about that?

It's not copying the EU

Gordon Brown rolled out his Golden Rule 20 years ago (although whether he actually adhered to it is an essay question) and informal versions of the same idea were around long before.

But it's worth noting that setting a rule doesn't dictate how you play the game they don't necessarily entrench inequality.

My worry is that in pinning down one source of unsustainable growth you merely prompt a bubble to appear somewhere else. Last time round it was the housing market

DUI's one of those things that Americans reeeaaalllyyy don't give a shite about. There's a tiny percentage of the country has any public transport and to a greater degree, public perception takes the offender as being unlucky to get caught unless anyone dies. Just back from Houston where you can get a pint of frozen whatever at the drive thru daiquiri shop for $7 and three extra shots for $1. Wisconsin, you need to be done for your third time before you're in any danger of losing your license. Didn't Bush Jr have one on his record?

Side note - Martin O'Malley (remember him?) has confirmed he's not re-running and says will back Beto.

Sanders will be 79 at the time of the next Presidential election.

Or dead.

... And Biden 77 (and he had a couple of shots at the presidency back in the day already).

Surely the Dems will want someone younger, rightly or wrongly.

* checks Beto O’Rourke’s voting record, then looks at Trump, then back at O’Rourke...*

The choice isn't between Beto and Trump (atm anyway).

O'Rourke is in the pockets of big oil and gas and his record is verging on the scandalous for someone claiming to be a 'progressive'., he's voted alongside Trump and the GOP plenty times.
