It maybe seems a long way off, from Trump going, but from that date onwards, anyone else who may serve out the remainer of his term would be eligible to have two terms as President. Pence is always very very quiet. He'll have his own ambitions and will be working behind the scenes for a shot at the job himself. The Republican leadership are doing nothing with the shutdown - not disavowing Trump yet but not actively supporting him.
