Morton v Queen of the South

Recommended Posts

"A few"

You've quoted your own inaccurate post to highlight something and yet have missed the biggest mistake in it.

At no point on here has any QoS poster aired thoughts about us being genuine title contenders. That's the point your managing to miss. And the more I think about it the more I don't believe "the hype" was anything dramatic anyway. Before a ball was kicked the majority thought we'd finish between 6th-8th but after the first few games the play-offs were a real possibility in a lot of people's minds. Mine included. But considering we've finished 4th a couple of times in this league it was hardly fairytale stuff thinking we could do it again this season.

Its a partnership that scored 6 in the last 4 league games. Thats more than the whole Morton team combined

The Famous took five points from those four games. Dobbie, Lyle and the rest of the Borders' bumpkins took two points. And beat you in the meeting of the two sides with your strikers contributing hee-haw again.

Thanks for playing anyway.

It's probably a good time to conclude matters with a small section of Fun With Facts. And these are facts are delicious.

Fact: Since the table-topping* Borders' Bumpkins hosted The Famous at Palmerston on October 15th, they have picked up precisely two points from ten league games. And been horsed out of the Scottish Cup by a lower league side. What a wee shame.

Fact: The Famous have taken 21 points - more than ten times as many - since single-handedly breaking the Borders' Bumpkins adorable "promotion challenge".

Just let that sink in.

Im well aware of that.

The point, though, was about Lyle and Dobbie and your claim that they were no longer the best partnership in the league since the 5-0 game. Their goal scoring record in recent games suggests otherwise.

The fact that the rest of the team has clear deficiencies isnt news to anyone, nor is it relevant in the context of discussing the strikers

Describing us as "Borders' Bumpkins", even in tiresome jest, does not meet the criteria for inclusion in a 'Fun with Facts' feature.
Unlucky, gutted, things sinking in etc.

It has already been established in a full lecture series that Dumfries is in the Borders. That the inhabitants of a town in the Borders are bumpkins is a logical extension, backed up in this case by more than sufficient anecdotal and eyewitness evidence.

Thanks for playing anyway.

Does it? Or does it rather just show that you played the worst side in the league at home, scored a few goals and still humiliatingly lost the match? When you came up against a proper team some time later, your strike partnership did absolutely nothing, as usual in those different circumstances.

It is entirely relevant to reflect on both the flaws of your team and the performance of your strikers at the same time, as that is how the game of football is actually played. The two issues simply cannot be isolated on the pitch. Your strikers offer absolutely nothing when you don't have the ball (which is quite often) and offer nothing anyway when up against a credible defence. You're effectively playing with nine men most weeks - hence why you're stinking the league out.

Perhaps League One will prove a better fit for your Jurassic-era tactics and your much vaunted "strike partnership" though.

No, not really. We scored 2 against St Mirren, yes but also 2 against Dunfermline and 2 against Falkirk, for the second time, something Morton didnt manage in their last games against the same teams.

Dobbie and Lyle are the top and 3rd top scorers in the league, whilst playing in a struggling team.
