Waspy
It's amazing the amount of Scottish fans I meet whilst watching Hertha.
fraser_smfc
Going to Berlin next month for 4 nights. I’ve been before, but this time I’m going with the other half who has never been. I was thinking it might be nice to have some sort of day trip outside of Berlin. To make it worthwhile though ideally it wouldn’t be any more than roughly an hour on the train each way. Any suggestions? Potsdam, Wannasee and also the concentration camp at Sachenhausen. All in zone C, all reachable by S Bahn.I’m back from a few days on a stag do. What a blur. Do not miss the chance to take in a match if you get the chance. We saw Hertha but Union is apparently also a good day out.

ScottR96
Booked up for October. My girlfriend has found a hotel she fancies in Hackescher Markt area. Is this a decent enough area to stay? Proximity to transport, boozers etc.

Berlin is a terrific city. Great doodles, too:

Alexanderplatz, the TV tower and the Brandenburg gate are not too far away.

Wouldn't be foolish enough to book accommodation without consulting P&B first. Edited June 9, 2018 by ScottR96

I personally like the Friedrichshain area, even if it is hipster central. There's pubs galore around boxhagener platz, some pretty impressive street art and it is well connected to the rest of the city via S bahn and U bahn. To me it feels a bit more "Berlin" if you catch my drift. The same could be said for Kreuzberg. Other parts of the city could really be anywhere. But I suppose it depends on what you're interested in. I quite like counter culture but if that's not your thing then you may be better off around Hackesher Markt.
gav-ffc
Had a fucking great time - even met some friendly Aberdeen, Killie, and Raith fans among the Hertha fans. Stayed at the Park Inn, which was great, and scooped up copious amounts of German beer, which was even better. Good times, [emoji4] Just got back yesterday and stayed at the same hotel. Great location, fantastic for transport which is just immense once you understand where your going. Being able to buy a beer and walk down the street is the way to go, sound a supermarket and they were doing bottles of Berliner pilsner for €0.63 a 500ml bottle but even at a food joint you could get one for €2.50 and the food is superb. Went to the fanzone for the Germany v South Korea game and was a great experience and the stalls weren’t even that expensive and some location. Highly recommend doing the DDR museum just off the river, done a boat tour up and down the river in a hour and found out some great things about the city. Some place and definitely be back.

Waspy
If you're staying in Berlin over a weekend I would recommend visiting one of the many flea markets around the city. Most of it is utter tat but you do get some decent stuff. I buy WW2 bits and pieces, you can get some interesting stuff ranging in prices.
stevieKTID
The Mauerpark flea market is pretty decent and the stadium next to it is pure floodlight porn, think its been mentioned earlier on this thread, was in Berlin for the 3rd time start of the year and i want to go back, love it

Aye that flea market is quite funky, always looking out for 80's football tracksuit tops. The karaoke they have in summer is quite good fun as well. We ended up at dynamo Berlin vs Chemie Leipzig game. Turned out to be some sort of right vs left derby cracking atmosphere though. The floodlights are absolutely glorious.

Boostin' Kev
For those that like East Berlin as opposed to West, Leipzig is supposed to be really good as well.
