PWL
My bird feeders are primarily squirrel feeders. Took this pic a few months ago. There were actually 5 of the wee buggers when I tried to take it but two of them bolted. They will actually bite through the wire on even heavy duty feeders after a while. They also learned how to take the base off the sunflower heart one so I had to drill it and put a Bolt in to secure. I have grudging admiration for their intelligence.
RiG
My folks have a few feeders out in the garden for the birds and the peanuts have attracted the attention of some nearby Great spotted woodpecker who are making regular trips multiple times a day. A couple of females and a juvenile are frequent visitors sometimes all at once. The juvenile needs to be more careful as it hadn't clocked the other birds in the garden disappearing when a Sparrowhawk came crashing in from above but it was able to get away in the nick of time.

It's funny as I've had them return to the garden for the first time in a few years and parents in Helensburgh have had them visit recently for first time ever. I wonder if there has been a population jump? Or have other sources of food changed forcing them towards feeders?
Alert Mongoose
Couple of visitors this morning. Juvenile (I think) bullfinches from this year’s brood.
sugna
Some primary research from our family WhatsApp group. Evie is one of their cats. I like the idea that the event backs up the population trend data.
tamthebam
Partridge (ah-ha) near Durisdeer, Dumfriesshire. No pear trees were harmed in the making of this photo.

Hedgecutter
Running through some photos and came across this from earlier in the year. No zoom involved, just a no-fear bad-ass crow in my garden who didn't believe in social distancing. I presume this was a relatively young and naive one?

I've seen them harass buzzards in the air and buzzards are bigger. I was fascinated on my recent break in Dumfriesshire to watch red kites take on craws in aerial dogfights. It was the first time I'd really seen red kites and they're pretty impressive birds.
jamamafegan
Huge numbers of geese at work today - over 2000 of them including greylags and pinkies. Over 200 whooper swan as well. Some racket they are making.

The Mantis
A few pretty average shots from Shetland a couple of weeks ago: Gannet, Ringed Plover, Twite, Curlew, Fulmar, Turnstone. Quite pleased with the Gannet diving mind you, been trying to get one of those for yonks.
tamthebam
I'm glad you identified the twite. I think I saw one of those on my holiday the other week. Usually when I see a LBJ* I just think "sparrow" *LBJ= little brown job

Hillonearth
Sister in law just phoned my missus to tell her she'd hit a gull on the motorway. On reflection my first question should have been "Is she okay?" rather than "What species?"

Ziggy
For the last few weeks, whilst walking my dogs I’ve seen a couple of Buzzards walking about a field. I assume they are looking for worms but it’s quite comical.
