I've never seen two at that park before, usually just one perched in the middle of the pond. One was bigger, similar to the one you saw at around 1 metre - my girlfriend said that's probably the female.

Seen them hunting in the tree tops for young crows and roof tops for young gulls.

Sitting having a coffee this morning when a Noisy Miner dropped by. They can be very territorial and will attack other birds. When nesting or with young they’ll swoop on anybody walking too close to their space.
