Hearts V The Rangers

Recommended Posts

Naturally most of the focus was on Rangers because of their hilarious excuse for a defence, but Hearts were genuinely superb last night. Obviously it's early but Cathro's start in the job had undeniably been dreadful looking at results. There were early signs that he's a manager who values having a philosophy, and that's fine provided you're willing to compromise on it when the circumstances require, but being cut open repeatedly by a dreadful Raith side because you insist on the full-backs bombing forward even when it clearly wasn't working must have had some alarm bells ringing that he wasn't willing to change things.

Last night though he had it spot on, he set his team out to exploit Rangers' weaknesses and they did it superbly. There's still the potential for calamitous moments from the likes of Sowah, but there are clearly signs that it's starting to work and January has allowed him to add players more suited to his style. Too early to say either way if he's likely to be a success or failure, but there's good reason to believe last night could be the turning point.

On the funnier note, Rob Kiernan  Andy Halliday  £6M Barrie McKay

Can we take a moment to appreciate Keith Jackson's player ratings from last night?

Some highlights:

A lot seems to be made that we played well because Rangers were crap. I think it couldn't have been more of a case of Rangers were crap because we were that good. My friend was saying that at 3-1, Neilson would have shut up shop and parked the bus. Cathro had them continue the onslaught, looking for more. We were fucking 'ole-ing' our way through the last half hour against an OF team. How often do we get to say that?

Against a new club you mean, amirite?

Only when you play a genuine paid up Old Firm member. The Rangers aren't even old enough to be the New Firm.

Maybe Old and inFirm?

Only just seen the highlights, FFS Rangers! Walkers first a belter, but how many times have we conceded goals this season (and last) trying to play the ball out from the back. Looked to have made a couple of clear chances ourselves, but that won't be the last gubbing we'll take this term if we keep defending like that, f*ckin woeful for all 4 goals.Jesus!! [emoji47]

Hearts were largely backs to the wall for at least 60 minutes last night and it was only down to poor finishing and individual errors that the result wasn't 4-1 in Rangers favour. A few Jambos getting carried away on the back of one good result.
