One things for sure is St Johnstone will not be as bad next season, you'll need to be hoping Livingston and Hearts are. True. But at the start of last season and also the start of this season I didn't think top 6 was realistic. I think that's changed.

AW saint
We will improve again next season. I expect better players to come in and a few to be moved on. Marry this with Dylan Reid being a regular around the first team.

I honestly can't think of a St Mirren poster that has demonstrated hubris on here. I think we've all seen this movie to know that while it doesn't have to go 'tits up' we have the propensity of grasping defeat (or ate least a draw) from the jaws of victory.

St Johnstone FC are some fucking club, maybe yours should aspire to be that good.

Hearts, Hibs and United will absolutely spend a fortune. And Motherwell/Kilmarnock were only so poor due to managers who lost the plot. Alexander/Wright won't emulate that next season. Key for St Mirren will be not panicking and changing too much this Summer, IMO. I get the impression Goodwin is the type who thinks he needs to improve through signings rather than on the training ground though, and you'll end up with a higher turnover of players than you need in the Summer and it'll take a while to work everything out. YassinMoutaouakil
Putting aside my petty, seething hatred of St Mirren, I've always quite liked Goodwin, due entirely to meeting him a few times at my old work and him coming across as a lovely guy in the main. Despite all this though, he's definitely started to look increasingly like a bit of an arsehole over the course of the season- not a bad trait for a manager obviously but it will be interesting to see how he bounces back from this.

He's become far too amenable to journos for a 'rent a quote' moment. For example, he was right to highlight the diving of Celtic's Taylor but shouldn't have followed that up by allowing the media to present it as a public crusade against it. For a couple of months it seemed like he was on speed dial for some of the journos, and I think that was a bit naive.
Coventry Saint
Still feeling slightly deflated after Saturday, but as is so often the case with Saints, it was the sense that we failed to muster a performance of note that hurts the most. We've made clear strides this season, but too often have ended up sitting deep in games, or have largely failed to lay a glove on our opponents. Lots of lovely, meaningless possession but nowhere near enough of a cutting edge. Very firmly want to see some contract announcements now. Fraser would now be top of my list, followed quite closely by Durmus (though I'm hoping he won't be getting made to play LWB next season, if we keep him. Seems a bit of a waste to me.) Maybe a nice surprise PCA from somewhere unexpected. At least the basis of the squad is there, and I'm assuming most clubs will be skint so hoping we won't have to fend off bids for the likes of McGrath.

sergie's no1 fan
Crazy to think our season came down to 2 set pieces, both horrendously defended. Other side of the coin StJohnstone won the cup from set pieces (against Hibs and Livi)and scored a couple of vital late goals and kept clean sheets against Hibs and County. For having such a 'mean' defence we didn't half give away some cheap goals this season.

TBH, it's good that we've been knocked out the league now so we can concentrate on the Cup. 45 minutes ago, sergie's no1 fan said: For having such a 'mean' defence we didn't half give away some cheap goals this season. Was it the start of this season we went through a spell of conceding really soft goals from low crosses, too? That got largely resolved and since then we've generally been quite hard to break down from open play, but as you say the set pieces have been a bit of a mare. 15 minutes ago, oaksoft said: We'll turn up OK. Remember in years gone by how teams we thought would lie down after the split because they had "nothing to play for" actually did the opposite? That'll be us. Anyone thinking they'll get 3 easy points off us is going to be sorely disappointed. By then some players will have played their last game for us , others will know they're not getting a new contract, and even some we wish to keep may have intimated that they're moving on , and the likes of Reid will be getting game time.
