Still hurting from this I'd imagine.

It wasn't long ago one of your fan was claiming you'd sell 3 or 4 players for many £millions, including Baron for whom you'll now only get a development fee for I believe. Anyway, are you happy with your squad, new manager and can you make top 6 next season. We are nearly all sorted and swapping Strain for Rooney is a positive for us overall. I'd love you to find just one post from an Aberdeen fan claiming we'd get upwards of 6 figures for Barron when we knew he was leaving at the end of his contract for over a year now. Very happy with the new manager and the incomings. Thank you for asking. 1 hour ago, FTOF said: The return of the lesser spotted saints obsessed Aberdeen fan. Butters Scotch
Glad to hear that Strain is a quality player when fit, hopefully he has a good pre season for us then. Not surprised we signed him as we have been throwing money around like confetti since Ogren has came in. We've seriously struggled in the RB position since the Houston days. Hope you boys have a good time in Europe, enjoy it whilst it lasts as it doesn't happen very often

It's almost as if the highly subjective views of partisan football fans on an internet forum aren't a solid basis for player valuations. Madness.
ZingaliMan
No disrespect meant to Dundee but very surprised to hear Strain moving to Dundee it's a side step no matter how you look at it. Are they paying over the odds a club already accumulating mass debt I understand. Great player when fit . Rooney is certainly a great replacement.

Like most wing backs who are strong going forward, he's a wee bit suspect defensively at times. If he doesn't get injured and adopts a more responsible approach to his personal fitness, you'll have great asset. Got a great free kick on him too.

It's a fair come back and again it is all about opinions of individuals. To be fair after his world cup performances it was a real surprise someone a lot bigger didn't come in for Baccus but if he'd been with a bigger club than us they may well have done. You guys might still get dosh for your 2 strikers too... who knows. At least you have a fresh start but think you'll still have players you need rid off.

Don't even think we will get a development fee . Mansfield Town though have signed some player and will make a few bob when they sell him .

Lex
Not many players win the Premiership player of the month while at St Mirren. Strain did, in August 2023. The award was right too, he was the best player in the league in that month. He was at the heartbeat of us starting last season like a freight train. He was scoring goals, setting them up and defending superbly. Come October we were unbeaten and sitting 3rd going into a home game against Rangers. Our season turned on him handling the ball in that game and getting sent off. We got humped 3-0, he got suspended and then injured on international duty shortly after. We ended up playing the likes of Flynn, Fraser and Conor McMenamin *shudder* in his place. Unsurprisingly, our form was that of a bottom six team between then and the end of the season, and this was rightly attributed to us missing Strain. He clearly wasn’t anywhere near back to fitness when he came back for the last few games either, that was obviously a bit of a gamble from both sides. Strain gambling that a few good performances would get him a decent deal in England and us gambling that he could recapture help us recapture our early season form. Neither worked out, we won one of our last nine games and Strain has ended up at another Scottish Club. Thanks to our form in August and September we managed to hold on and get 5th. But yeah, our two ‘ Aussie superstars’ leaving on free transfers to Mansfield Town and Dundee Utd wasn’t how that particular story was supposed to end. No matter, in Rooney we have a more than able replacement for Strain and Baccus was being kept out the team by CBM and O’Hara anyway, and we still have both of them. We move swiftly on and we will be fine.

In this day and age players are so closely monitored things like that don't happen. I think as a fan base we're a bit pissed off that Strain has signed for a rival and we're softening the blow by highlighting his fitness issues, rather than the fact that, on his day, he's a great player to have in your team. As others have mentioned, we can only hope that Rooney makes us forget about him. Edited June 23 by FTOF
