leomessi1984
Can confirm Hill of Beath have at least discussed the move and the stakeholders are pretty much split 50/50. Would be great to see them play Kelty again in the EOS/LL one day if it ever happens. I did not see the tide turning as fast as it appears to be after Kelty moving, could be very different world in the juniors/EOS soon. FairWeatherFan
The deadline for the EoSFL is March 31st. It seems they are discussing the various options of what format the league will take depending on the number of applicants. It might not be as clear cut as Divisions One & Two at Tier 6 & 7. Two Divisions split by geography at Tier 6 for at least a season is something that could happen. The deadline for the SoSFL is April 30th. If Wigtown do return that has the league at 16 clubs with the possibility of Dalbeattie Star being a 17th if they get relegated. Even if it's only a couple of West Region clubs you could get a WoS league through the backdoor by the SoSFL having enough clubs for North/South Divisions.

As a kid, I watched this League when it was down to Newton Stewart, St Cuthbert's, Stranraer, Threave Rovers and Wigtown. So those who disparage it should recognise what a success it has been in the last few years.

I said months ago the trickle would eventually turn into a flow, thought it might take 2-3 seasons, looks like it's taken 2-3 months. Quite incredible really but perhaps illustrates the dissatisfaction with the SJFA. I am pretty sure it will happen in the West also. The small fact that there isn't a W.o.s.l. is getting in the way.Things can change and change rapidly. We will just have to wait and see.

Dalbeattie won't finish in the bottom two this season. However the SJFA may decide to support the West Superleague becoming a Lowland feeder league at tier 6 within the pyramid, to avoid following the East trend - providing of course, that the new WoSL stays within the remit of the Junior Association.

March 31st rolls around and the East Region is due to lose a decent number of teams for the 2018-19 season. There's now a month in which West Region clubs can apply for the SoSFL and get in at Tier 6. What's more likely to happen? The West Superleague clubs collectively apply and are accepted for Tier 6 status. A status they will likely have to gain by abandoning the SJFA. Or a small smattering of West Region clubs apply to SoSFL and forces some sort of divisional structure that could be geographically beneficial to Ayrshire/Central area teams. Even if Dalbeattie stay in the Lowland next year its possible that the SoSFL could have in excess of 16 teams. Hypothetically, BSC Glasgow might fancy putting a Reserve side or another Boys club decides to run a Senior side. However it goes any additional teams are going to come from outwith the traditional SoSFL footprint. Which will make the league's membership a truer reflection of the West of Scotland. In doing so they can cement their standing as the sole Tier 6 league in the WoS catchment area.

There is no panic - clubs seeking to move are taking logical and pragmatic steps to look after their long-term interests. From what I can gather there are at least 4 East SL club committees (including Bonnyrigg and Bo'ness) discussing a move to the EoS plus 3 Premier clubs (including Dalkeith) and 1 from the South League. Add also the club 'just north of Tay' whatever league they play in. Kelty paved the way...
