Like many pubs it was cheap as chips. I liked it. I often wonder where my grandfather used to drink when he stayed in Sligo Street in Lumphinnans back in the day. Legend has it that he gave up the demon brew after he came face to face with auld Nick at the bottom of the stairwell stotting home from the pub one night and was teetotal from that day on... I would have thought that the prospect of eternity in the fiery pits of Hell was probably better than living in Lumphinnans. Hmm.. slight resemblance to Cowden Chairman Donald Finlay there..
Markka
The worst pub in Scotland is the Koelschip Yard. I wouldn't even call it a pub. Stay 50 yards from it and have avoided it since it opened.
LincolnHearts
The Ferry Boat was a blinding pub for bother. Luckily or Unluckily, Drylaw Polis station was virtually next door. Reckon that place gave them more than their fair share of paperwork and court time. -

Was going to a gig with a mate and we were meeting a mutual acquaintance before the concert. Meeting place of choice was this shitehole. Place was pretty empty despite it being a Friday (around 6:30) so there was plenty of available seating. Didnt stop the utter scumbag who was at the bar pissing himself where he sat because he didnt want to give up his seat. Judging by the stink and the stains on his joggies, he'd broken his beer seal several pints ago and was on at least piss number 3. Lasted 20 minutes before admitting that standing outside of the Barras was the marginally more attractive option. There are worse pubs than the Tollbooth within 200 yards.

Jacksgranda
Not in Scotland, and I must admit I've never been in it, but it doesn't look too inviting.
Taxman
I live in the West of Glasgow so we don't really have any out & out shitholes but there a few well known "stab inns" if that counts. I've been in some dives in the farther reaches of Ayrshire & Lanarkshire though, mainly ex-mining villages.

Mungall St is what is now Gagarin Way, Sligo St is one of three streets running parallel (from L to R) Beveridge St, Sligo St and Mungall St. Sligo St is roughly where Hope St is today and Beveridge St started at the end of what is Gallagher Place.

Yes. I actually checked a map from 1920ish just after my reply. There looks to be nothing remaining of the old houses. I remember reading that they were pretty grim places to stay. They had something like eight children as well. Must have been tough going. They separated and my Grandfather remarried. My mum was born in 1941 when he was 60!

I'm from Lanarkshire and now in Ayrshire so share your interest! Good thread this, btw.
MONKMAN
Not the worst, but the only pub I’ve ever been in Scotland where I felt uneasy was the Morven in Springburn. I spent half the time looking at the floor, worried I actually made eye contact with anyone.

Here's The Central Bar in Renton, a quaint wee village on the road between Dumbarton & Alexandria. The building dates from the 1700's, the boozer itself was established early 1900's. There used to be about 3 pubs in Renton, pretty rough they were, only the Central remains now.

KillieCon
Is the Wellington still open? It looks shut every time I go past it. There are two Wellingtons, one in town and one in Crookedholm. The one in Crookedholm has been shut for a while.

Methil v Dundee Quarter-finals: Tower Bar v Caws The Brig Tavern v Polepark Bar Purple Cat v Kelly's Kirkland Bar v The Kettledrum My Granny's wake was at the Purple Cat. I'd walked past loads of times as a child and always assumed it was a public toilet due to the brutalist exterior tile-work. A blocked porcelain bowl and a stench of piss would have added a bit of class and atmosphere.
