So with Rodgers pretty much confirming Starfelt is likely to leave with Celta Vigo being the likely destination it also appears Haksabanovic agent has been told to start looking for new clubs also

Yeah quite liked the look of Haksabanovic but he was one of those players who had talent but couldn't sense what position suited him, but in the end he isn't remotely good enough to be given a free role. Liked a touch too many at times as well. As for Starfelt I'm not going to greet as I don't think a replacement is too far too find if we spend the same cash we paid for him.

Brendan Rodgers 'couldn't understand' Celtic transfer exits during first stint as boss returns with fresh perspective - Football Scotland

Quote

Brendan Rodgers insists he could never understand why players wanted to leave Celtic during his first stint at the club.

The Hoops boss used to scratch his head when some of his key stars like Moussa Dembele and Stuart Armstrong moved on to pastures new. But Rodgers - who himself departed Parkhead for Leicester City in February 2019 - has returned to the hotseat with a fresh perspective.

Swedish defender Carl Starfelt is poised to complete a move to La Liga outfit Celta Vigo this week after two hugely successful years in Scotland. But rather than take it personally, Rodgers accepts the prospect of playing in a better league but not necessarily a bigger club has a massive pull on the modern-day player.

He said: “I think there’s an opportunity for Carl. A lot of these guys come in here and they have a two or three-year cycle and then they look to move on. If they get the chance to move, not to a bigger club but to a more competitive league and it’s better for them economically, then naturally they are going to look at it.

“It was (more frustrating) in my first time here because, as someone who loved the club for a long time, I could never understand why someone would leave Celtic. But it’s the way of the world. I think the supporters now understand that and they understand the model of the club.

"History has shown that guys will come in and work really well. The real key to it all is to ensure that, behind that, there is a plan in place for when one of them does go. That’s the beauty of it.”

Rodgers knows people will point the finger and accuse him of doing the same thing four-and-a-half years ago, but the former Swansea, Liverpool and Leciester boss revealed he may never return to England's top-flight.

He added: “When most players leave here - and even to my own extent - you’re not leaving Celtic, you’re leaving the league. I left Celtic for the league, the competition. I’ve come back for Celtic, not the league.

“I have managed three Premier League clubs. Some people never get the chance to manage one. So, if I never go back to the Premier League in my life I’ve had a good run. My feeling was to come back here and this is where I am really, really happy.

“The mindset changes slightly. You know the landscape, you have a better feel for it and you understand better the model of the club. You find other ways to help the club progress. That’s why I came back.”

While the headline is, as it often is, a bit sensationalist, I can't help but feel that Rodgers is completely tone deaf here and remarks like "you're leaving the league... I've come back for Celtic, not the league" are rather disparaging to the country and competition he is managing in.

He's absolutely at it too. Take Dembele under him he can't understand why he's wanting to leave going to a better league, his home country and doubling his wage? He's just Brendan being Brendan.

The old Jinky sidestep.

Beat one man, beat two , turn round, try to beat one man again, get dispossessed, crowd groan, scream at Murdoch or Auld to give it to Bobby Lennox or Big Yogi (the original & best) instead.......The Jimmy Johnstone experience as loved by one and all.

Your hatred for all things Celtic is incredible.

Pointing out that Jimmy Johnstone, while being miles in front of any current Celtic player, could at times be frustratingly inconsistent is merely an opinion with which those who saw him play more than I did, can disagree. You appear to be one of these 'Celtic minded' dogmatists who demand nothing but lavish praise 'for all things Celtic' and see any deviation from that doctrine as evidence of heretical and unacceptable anti-Celticism.

He's trying way too hard with this one. I just had him down as an incessant harmless idiot but he's just being a bit vindictive now.

Not in the slightest bud, appearances can indeed be deceiving.

You just seem to go out of your way to criticise Celtic at any given moment using any sort of mental gymnastic you can perform at that time.

It must be strange having a club you hate living rent free in your mind.

I’m not sure if I’m missing something here but if Pele and Eusebio have both talked about a person’s greatness on the pitch, and I think we can all agree those are 2 guys that can judge greatness, then Jimmy Johnstone was clearly doing something right ?

I also think you’ll find that Bobby Lennox has regularly talked about how great a player Johnstone was and again Lennox is a guy that is well qualified to talk about greatness.

Again, apologies if I’ve missed something here.
