St Mirren v Morton

Recommended Posts

McGinn strolling it but not found that killer pass yet. Quitongo is absolutely electric.

Ref has let a few meaty 50/50 tackles go and has blew for some niggly wee fouls so the games struggling to get into a rhythm.

Decent enough half for a 0-0, we are causing Morton some trouble in their box but we can't get the decisive shot away. Quitongo looks so dangerous on the break.

This is as garbage as expected from us. The saving grace is that St Mirren have also been dreadful, but they've still easily been the better team and they're looking far more likely to score than us as they have complete control of midfield and that means the game has mostly been played in our half.

It's been a game of two teams utterly devoid of imagination in attack trying to bludgeon their way through the opposition defence and failing, I'm sure it's a scintillating watch if any neutrals have turned up.

The positive to take is that this war of attrition nonsense at least means we could screw our way to a 1-0 win from a set-piece, and if that comes to pass we can say our approach has been successful in reducing this game to utter shite in the first place, but what we've done with the few set-piece opportunities we've had so far gives us little reason to be confident of that paying off.

McLean is actually ruining the game by stopping play for little reason every 20 seconds. Really poor.

You were expecting us to turn up and outplay the league leaders away?

This has been solid from us, exactly what was required

Outplay, no. Look remotely competent in possession, aye.

Still, if a shitfest 1-0 win comes of it I'll be perfectly happy.

FT 2-2

If the first half was a snooze fest, the second half was rip snorting entertainment.

All kicked off when Morgan stuck a 25 yard free kick into the wall, chased the rebound and was tugged. Might have been a foul, might not have been. Might have been inside the box, might not have been. Penalty, 1-0.

Then Morton ran down the park and scored a fantastic equaliser. Sat up for the lad and great finish from outside the box into the bottom corner.

Then we go down the other end and go back ahead through another fine goal. Good move, Smith in behind, good cut back, excellent finish Reilly.

Then a corner Morton and one of those tug off the ball penalties. Might have been a foul, probably wouldn't have been given if our one wasn't.

Draw probably about right, Dunfermline lost... so we are still clear at the top of the league. Good day. Let's win at Tannadice next week, send the proverbial message.

A point probably fair. At 1-0, Morgans dig from outside the box came off a Morton player and should have been a corner. Ref doesn't spot it, Morton run up the park and make it 1-1.

Not sure if our penalty was inside or not. Reilly's one was certainly outside the box  but it was a definite foul.

Buchanan is an idiot. Ref tells everyone off before Morton corner so it's obvious he's looking to give something one way or the other so why clearly commit the foul directly in front of a ref who was looking for a reason to give something?

All in all, frustrating day but still extended our lead. So not all bad I suppose.

Both penalties were blatant fouls, only debate to be had is whether St Mirren's was actually in the box. Fair result regardless, incredible that a great game of football somehow broke out after that first half. I'm happy enough with that.

Good second half to be fair, bit of stick coming from both sets of fans made it a good laugh.

Unsure on both the penalties but 2-2 was probably a fair result in the end, and still top of the league.
