He became the first Scotland player ever to be sent off. I believe this indiscipline partly led to his departure from Celtic. It was a different game back then. The abuse flair players took back then was incredible. Bertie could dish it back out though. He broke the legs of Davie Provan of Rangers then George Miller of Hearts in consecutive games. When he signed for Birmingham he was sent off for head butting Johnny Haynes and then knocked out the Fulham centre half who came to remonstrate with Bertie with one punch. I never knew this about Bertie Auld, having been convinced Hughie Gallagher had been sent off by a Mr Fogg but Wiki shows that as being a League game in England. Gallagher was never booked for Scotland despite his quick reactions to fouls. Wiki then appears to show Billy Steel being sent off in 1951 against Austria also for retaliation.

Supposedly the third Lanark keeper Jocky Robertson was an avid Hearts fan and always wore a Hearts top underneath his goalie jersey. The only time a player in the the losing team was wearing the colours of the winning team. Wonder what colours Thirds were wearing that day: guessing at sky blue and claret to contrast Hearts' white with maroon candy stipes, but can't see anything mentioned in match reports.
Dundee Hibernian
Alan Gordon played for Hibs, Dundee United, Hearts and Dundee in his long career which also included a stint in South Africa at Durban United. Still, I think, the only player to have been signed by both Edinburgh and both Dundee clubs.
Lurkst
In the week of our superb win over Denmark, here's Kenny Dalglish in action the previous time that the Danes came to Hampden on World Cup duty... The great man scored the opener that night in 1972, his first international goal. Coincidentally the final score was 2-0 Scotland and the game was also played on the 15th November! A pedant writes: "Both Dundee clubs" is fair enough but for the last two years of his career Edinburgh had 3 Scottish League clubs. And there are at present 3 Scottish League clubs from Edinburgh.
tamthebam
Close but no cigar: Wilie Jamieson (Dundee, Hearts, Hibs but not Dundee United) Darren Jackson (Dundee United, Meadowbank, Hearts, Hibs but not Dundee) Gordon McLeod (Dundee United, Dundee, Meadowbank but not Hearts or Hibs) Thomson Allan (Hibs, Hearts, Meadowbank, Dundee but not Dundee United)

Spartans now being part of the pyramid system, if we want to stretch things.

tamthebam
Cliff proving that there was someone who played worse at Pittodrie than David Winnie... ETA: Billy Graham looks like he's trying to open the biscuit tin where the Celtic board have put his collection claiming that "it's just resting there..." Lurkst
While Celtic are currently taking on St Johnstone at Hampden with the number 10 on their shorts in tribute to Bertie Auld, here is Bertie scoring the only goal of the October 1969 League Cup final at Hampden against St Johnstone, somewhat ironically wearing the number 11 shorts...

Le Tout P'ti FC
Any thoughts on where this was taken? I'm wondering if it might be Gayfield. Unsure though.

Yes it’s gayfield. I think that’s the Scottish cup game in 1980 that ended 1-1.
