Report of a friendly between Dundee and West Bromwich Albion played at Carolina Port on a holiday Monday (Oct 14) in 1895. Dundee won 3-1 in front of a crowd of 7,000. Here’s the link to the Dee Archive report in case the below is too difficult to read.    https://www.deearchive.co.uk/matchdetails.php?id=5357

Juteopolitans is a magnificently unwieldy nickname for Dundee.

I think it should be revived.

Scotland Schools in 1968.

Quite a few of these guys turned senior, with varying degrees of success.

Souness and J Robertson were the most famous, but Ally Robertson played for seasons at WBA totting up hundreds of matches before moving to Wolves for four years. Alec Bruce had two long spells at PNE sandwiching a season at Newcastle before moving to Wigan.

Maitland Pollock went to Nottingham Forest, but had most success at Portsmouth before ending his career at QoS.

Liverpool signed a young Brian Laing but released him two years later to Hearts: rarley playing there he also went to Dumfries.

Finally Rab Cairns had two long spells at East Fife and also tunred out for Ayr and Berwick.

Any others you recognise?

With Glasgow's  favourite son Mo Johnston in the team, Partick Thistle took drastic kit measures to ensure young Mo remembered which Glasgow team he was currently playing for.

If I remember correctly, Thistle wore this strip once or twice when the idea of “shirt sponsorship” was being mooted. Like an “advert for an advert”, it was to show prospective advertisers what their name on the shirt would look like.  Now, out of context, yes it has a weird look.

Ian McDonald - later had a spell at Cappielow and split the support. To some he could do no wrong and if other players couldn't reach his wayward passes it was all down to their own shortcomings. To others he was a headless chicken who frequently wasted free-kicks.

Alan Mahood spoke well of him, saying that "he protected the younger players" - so if anyone fouled one of our promising young talent, it was a sure thing that Mac would cut them in two within a few minutes and get booked for it.

1988 Scottish Cup final

Tommy Burns, Billy McKinlay who like his team mate Kevin Gallagher was constantly linked with Celtic in that era but never came to anything, Paul McStay and a blurry Frank McAvennie in the background who's two goals would win the cup on a baking hot day at Hampden.

Eerily similar to the final three years earlier, Dundee United took the lead early in the second half, Celtic equalise with about 15 minutes left and scored the winner with a couple of minutes left, that final and the 1-0 win against Rangers the following year were both played in blazing early summer sunshine.

Rangers v Morton at Ibrox in the early 70s, back in the day when fixtures like this and Celtic v Hibernian didn't necessitate change strips.

I think A. Bruce back left may be Dundonian Alex Bruce who spent all of his career in England, primarily with Preston North End. If my memory serves me right he was regarded as a bit of a cult hero by the NE fans

He was from Dundee and here he is scoring for Preston in 1981.
