So reading over the explanation of where it came from, it sounds as if someone had a commemorative cup left over from a batch order and though "Meh. Whoever's top of the league in Scotland can have it".

Do any of the other original recipients have a silly carry on with theirs?

Some of them, but they don't make such a big fuss about it.

"It is believed that Charlton’s Loving Cup is one of only five that are still in existence, with West Bromwich Albion, Everton and Stoke City the only clubs that still observe the tradition, while it currently resides in the Charlton Museum."

The other recipients probably have theirs packed up in the same box in the attic where they keep their Charles and Diana Royal Wedding memorabilia and Queen Elizabeth Silver Jubilee coin collection.

I wouldn't be surprised if Rangers holds an annual commemorative ceremony involving their Charles and Di Tea Towel, though.

Are they sure it's not a piss-take? Presented by Francie and Josie?

Sir Francis Joseph had the middle name "L'estrange". Perhaps not so much Francie and Josie as Julian and Sandy.

Surprised the cup hasn’t been sold. I heard a Chinese antique dealer had tabled a six figure sum.

That might be pish though.

A Keith Jackson article perchance?
