Not giving a 30 year old Mullen a 3 year contract due to his age but then signing a 34 year old winger instead doesn’t make a lot of sense.

You have to take into account that Murphy has performed at a higher level consistently than Mullin has and won't be signing a 3 year deal.

Not a great comparison but Messi's 35. You surely wouldn't turn him down for 3 years of Josh Mullin.

Tummilty has left Hamilton, should be looking at him and Strapp and that's the defence more or less sorted, McAllister can cover right back and centre half, Stanger centre half and Reading left back with Ecrepont out on loan, or even him covering left back and Reading leaving.

If we're seriously saying Lewis Strapp, a player released by Morton is not in our wage budget then we might aswell lock the gates to Somerset ffs.

Is there not £100k+ compensation required to sign him?

Has Liam Smith signed for anyone yet ?

I suppose lots will also depend on whether we're willing to spend a large portion of our budget on 2 quality full backs (or even 1) when we also require a playmaker, a destroyer in the middle of the park, a winger and at least one proven striker.

Maybe Kirk will have a wee pal or two at Arsenal who will fancy a year at the seaside !!

Think we could relax on the old ageism here just because of Maguire. Are we really saying we wouldn't take 35 year old Brian Graham if he became available?

The two problems with these sort of guys is that they have no sell on value and the others is that legs can just go at any point when in mid 30's.

Think Ecrepont has had enough loans by now, time to either put him in the squad or release him, would rather he is backup LB than Reading .

Murphy, Strapp, Tumilty

Ecrepont getting a start at LB or a chance at least.

New striker. New Midfielder. 🤔

Who's Murphy ?

Utter nonsense. Not quite released because he's not good enough is it?

The guy could quite easily be playing in the bottom half of the Premiership or South of the Border.

Paper talk maybe but there was also talk of him moving abroad as well around the time of him not being picked.

But by your reckoning we should be heading the queue of interested parties. Makes no sense at all.

The guy who used to play for Motherwell, Hibernian and Sevco whose facial expressions either look as if someone has smeared dog shite on his car door handles or that he is suffering from a severe stomach bug.

Christ, I'd forgotten about him already even though we'd been discussing him all Morning !!

It must be an age thing !!

Think the point is he’ll likely have offers from other teams that we can’t compete with. He also wasn’t released because he wasn’t good enough either.

He’d be a terrific signing but I reckon he’ll end up at Killie or St Mirren.

If we gave a 34 year old winger a two year deal I'd agree.  If it's one year and they are good enough there's no issue.

Murphy falls into the same category as Maguire.  The only reason he’d end up at Ayr is if his legs have gone.

Yeah, I don't think we're that STRAPPed for cash that we cannot afford Strapp.

STRAPP yourself in for an exciting season.

It’s worth noting that Murphy played semi consistently for St Johnstone last season whereas Maguire hadn’t played for about six months before coming to us.

He wasn’t great for us but there’s every chance that once he gets a proper pre season under his belt and is utilised properly then he’ll be a good signing for someone.

If Murphy is given a one year deal then I’m fine with that. Wouldn’t be surprised if we offered him some sort of route into coaching as well.

A player being released by Morton, and a player not renewing his contract with Morton are two very different things.

He wasn't offered a contract from Morton therefore he was released.
