Yeah, the area in which the alcohol was to be consumed would have to be licensed and if that was to be part of the stand/terracing then I can’t see any Licensing Board approving that.

In England they can have a beer in the concourse before ,at half time and after . In Scotland we have the old firm .

Surely Smith can muscle a bar into the new stand with a small beer garden behind it ? Still plenty of unused space .

The bold bit is the reason for an awful lot of pish in modern day Scotland. Small potatoes but my kids can’t wear their Ayr tops to PE because of the bold bit.

That to me just seems like a rule for the sake of having a rule.  I've never been to an English game but I imagine the beer bit is just a bit shit.

When it eventually comes back it needs to be back properly.

There's no way in hell they're going to open up any sort of alcohol consumption to stand side plebs. There will also not be the supporters club pre/halftime/post match drinks option either in my opinion as that would reduce the value and experience of the kind of hospitality package the club are looking to offer. That'll only change if the hospitality starts becoming unpopular and they require the income. Surely the solution is expanding the hub or pre order/pay for drinks on an app in the hub, a spoons type idea? The way Scottish football is going (look at what Hibs are shouting about this week) you'll not be allowed entry to football while under the influence soon.... Which I actually think is a stadium rule 😅🤣 As much as a lot of fans would welcome the extra opportunity for the consumption of alcohol pre/during/post match, I don't think it's the direction society, local authority or Government are heading in.

The ban is on drinking while watching senior football, you can get a pint at half time at junior grounds. Senior games it’s completely off limits unless you are in hospitality and don’t have a view of the match.

The hub is in a middle ground between being too small for match days and probably too big for every other day. The bar is too small to have 10 bar staff required to serve all the people quickly so pre-orders aren’t going to help. It would be stupid to have a vast space that will only be used maybe 25 match days.

The hospitality will hopefully be booked out to offer a service so it is out of bounds to regular folk. In Europe, there isn’t the same culture of sprinting out the ground on the final whistle or before to beat traffic or get public transport. There are activities around the stadiums and bars selling food and drink.
At Ayr, we only have the car park, so folk wouldn’t be happy with 300 pissed up folk hanging about post match with a pint.
Unless there is space around the back of the hospitality or the north terrace its self now it has a cover, having beer and food sold 5-6 might take the strain off the hub and make the club a bit more money.

There were initial discussions several years ago to run some trial games ( low risk ) at which alcoholic beverages could be sold within grounds.

It’s classism, pure and simple.

IMO, a couple of beers whilst watching Ayr would make bearable.

I've a wee bit more faith in Ayr now but it wasn't that long ago I'd be concerned you'd be getting a warm can of Carling poured into a flimsy plastic cup.

Last April I went to a different part of the Millerntor and it was an older crowd around me than normal and some of the old guys had wee lanyards they were keeping their beers in, wonder if that would catch on at Somerset

First time I went to a game in Europe was Werder Bremen and was amazed you could get a beer. Bought one and realised it was a massive schoolboy error as it was minus 4 and the last thing I was needing was an ice cold pint of beer.

That's where the Swiss have got it sussed. I went to Servette and there was a guy coming through the crowd selling tots of brandy.

I was not overly bothered the derby I went to in December was a 'dry' match because it was freezing and snowing.

I remember being in a German hospital for a few days circa 2002... they had beer vending machines next to the juice ones in the lobby... different class place haha!

I think it was 1 mark coins that were the same size as 10p coins. We emptied the vending machine in our hotel of beer for about £3 without appreciating that now it was empty, they would empty the cash when they refilled it with cans. We got a talking to like school children from the hotel manager.
it was Becks as well. Howling.

Ha... been there with becks to... came back on a boat from the middle east... 4.50 a case of becks and that's all there was to drink... can't even smell it to this day without boakin! Aye, the Germans like dishing out a stern lecture haha!

Round Christmas time the German grounds sell mulled wine. Never really liked it before but absolutely hits the spot in sub zero temperatures.

The infrastructure of the country is far worse than it used to be though and the idea that the trains and public transport still run on time is a myth. Also been loads of strikes recently and will get worse as the economy tanks thanks to far east competition.

Still a lot to learn from the way they run football though.
