Absolute woeful cup displays. Long season ahead for you imo We're still down about 4 senior players who likely become regulars (Booth, MacPherson, Clark, Kane) who never played a real part in the group. At least 3 signings still expected too with them all expected to be starters. But aye, regardless it looks like we'll be down there. 10 hours ago, AuAl said: I take it the decision making both at board level and by the previous manager has just been way off the mark for a couple of years? Also, a 3 year deal for MacLean - Did the club give a reason for that length of contract? ill put the reply in spoilers as itll be long and i doubt many in here are that interested. Spoiler Steve Brown, then chairman, seemed to completely chuck it years ago, even before Davidson was hired. He passed running of the club over to others and walked away, effectively. Tommy Wright resigned during that period and you could argue its because he saw the way the club was headed. He effectively said as much publicly during his last window, in retrospect. Wright left an incredible young squad that Davidson took full advantage of, with folk like Jason Kerr and Ali McCann already battle hardened, but he never had any interest in building a squad of his own. Ive seen more than a few people say he spent his Summer after the double trying to find an English club to hire him rather than do anything for us in terms of improving the squad. That became an issue when they sold both Kerr and McCann on deadline day and thought 3 kids with no senior games (Muller, Dendoncker, Gilmour) and Cammy MacPherson was enough to replace the two lost. Since then Davidson effectively got full control to do what he wanted, including hiring the man who had final say on signings and who was responsible for sacking Davidson himself. Ian Flaherty had zero experience of that role and is a salesman for Binn Skips. He phoned fans telling them he'd been scouting players all over Europe to find a striker to improve the squad about 2 days before we paid a fee for Nicky Clark from Dundee Utd They just kept signing and signing folk endlessly, and last Summer handed out some huge deals for experienced players, virtually all got 2yr deals or longer. Meanwhile youngsters got neglected and barely played. Geoff Brown, Steves dad, is now back involved to a tiny degree, while Steve Brown has zero role at the club. Its uncertain who made the decision out of those two, but Davidson, Flaherty, and virtually the entire board, have been punted over the past few months and things restructured. The club is also up for sale now too, as theres no other member of the Brown family interested and Steve wont return. As for MacLean, they gave him that deal to give him breathing space. We need to gamble on a younger squad so giving him some security to trust a long term plan makes sense. A 1yr deal and he's more likely to make short term signings to save himself.

Interesting to see if you'll manage to turn things around when the league starts and if the decision makers carry on in their support of MacLean if the poor results carry on into the league. The recruitment in this window will be vitally important. Starting to replace managers periodically rarely ends well either.

Maybe that's what happens when Gus MacPherson has a hand on the steering wheel. That was a baffling decision from the outside looking in. Guest
The early signs are that Jamie Murphy could become our modern era Andy Walker and the fact that McGeady is still to come in is really exciting for the season ahead. Another one or two signings in the right areas and we could be a real force this season given our undoubted quality up top.

Of all those involved he seems the least responsible.

All the new boys seem to be fitting in well and the academy production line goes from strength to strength - Watret, Tomlinson and especially Bryden have certainly caught the eye so far. Where to now for the squad? Am I right in saying we don't have any loanees included? That would seem to be the next step (unless Mathie and Co are stepping away from that part of the market - it is risky and last seasons were hardly successful, Josh and Alex aside and even they got injured). Interesting times for sure but a dished out and fully deserved 6-0 pumpin is very good for my state of mind Edited July 30, 2023 by Jazzar Typo

Couple of full backs and I would consider this a tremendous transfer window.
callum-ayr
Never even considered the fact we’ve no loan players this year. Maybe a case of not wanting a January like last season to happen again with being reliant on they players and the upheaval it caused?

Superhursty7
Aye Stirling at home, can't get the Bigot Brothers so no chance of a big pay day, so a draw that gets us the best chance of the quarters please.

Yeah we can draw them again. Don’t believe there is anything to stop it, sure it happened to someone a few years ago.
