So I mean, you can hardly go on about how the club is bleeding money due to its huuuuuge squad and then point at the shiny new pitch. The huuuge squad plus a shiny new pitch was 300k. That means McKenzie basically won the pitch for free. As good a reason as any not to pack him off to Dumbarton on loan while the club still doesn't have a proven goalscorer.

Your original point was that we didn’t have to shift players because we had loads of Money.

The club had planned to do the pitch in advance of the seasons end so would have predicted a loss depending on where we finished. Dipos inevitable transfer would cover any shortfall and hopefully add a cherry on top of our playing budget.

As it panned out, the second place covered the pitch before Dipos transfer. Was the fee more or less than expected? Was the bonuses for second higher? I don’t know. But the fact the club are cutting costs suggests that they are pushing the limit of the budget, either with the squad they have or they would like to have.

No it wasn't. It was that the squad isn't unduly large. That the club broke even despite doing a full pitch relay and still has the Akinyemi money to come in suggests that unless the NT reworking has a major impact on walk-up ticket sales the club will do just fine this year unless it gets relegated. And it still has plenty of cash in hand.

What fact is that?

Very few clubs run at a profit. At this level that number is usually zero. Ayr haven't done it for years. They did it in 21-22 when the team were shit. They did it in 22-23 when the team were better. They're going to need to spend money to crack on from where they are even when the infrastructure work is complete. But that doesn't mean that emptying out half-a-dozen guys whose balls have barely dropped is going to make an impact.

They have moved on Hewitt, Bangala and JML along with O’Conner, who were all contracted for this season, all could have played a part this season or kicked their heels and picked up a wage either way.

From what you are saying, the club could have kept them and signed any inbound players this week. If what you are saying is correct, why didn’t they punt Bangala the day he got off the train from Aberdeen at the end of the season?

Maybe he was one of the players McGeady was to run the rule over?

And you don't know the terms under which they left. It isn't automatically the case that they got their contracts bought out. O'Connor in particular probably just got freed up, given that he walked right into a top-flight contract elsewhere. Furthermore, this is apples and oranges: McKenzie might not have scored a dozen goals last season, but he contributed a lot more than JML did, so obviously the club's calculus would be to try to offboard JML as a priority even if it wanted rid of both (which again I don't think it actually did).

The general lack of news is making folk jumpy and clinging to any hint of gossip. I don't follow him on twitter or any of the players so I don't come over all Angela Landsbury every time a player tweets with a cryptic emoji.
