Why does Boris Johnson need Dominic Cummings enough to go through all this pain just to keep him? There are plenty of incredibly capable, prescient, hard working, well connected people who could do his job. He must offer something more than that if he's worth risking this amount of credibility and political capital, at a time like this.

No PM has ever fought nearly this hard to keep anyone, not even Tony Blair with Alistair Campbell or Thatcher with Heseltine.

Something's not right here.

Cummings has a lot of dirt on Boris.

He (BJ) has to try and keep him sweet.

Saw filling the boot of a Discovery yesterday. Don't know how big their fuel tanks are but my folks had one of them a few years ago and said it used to drink fuel like nothing they'd had before.

Aye fair enough. No chance a Discovery is doing 600 miles on a single tank

The most mental bit of this to me is that they allowed questions knowing how much of a state he would be. Anyone who is a poor public speaker knows that they are a poor public speaker. They could've sent him out with the script or pre recorded something. The scripted bit was still awful but the questioning has been wild.

Because Boris is just the monkey, Cummings is the organ grinder.

As I heard somewhere today, Johnson sacking Cummings would be like emu sacking Rod Hull.

He's protecting the PM by lying about the PM not having knowledge of this journey north.

He did say that he and Boris had a conversation about it, but neither of them could really remember because they were so ill.

Despite his forensic recollection of everything else.

Anyone who has lost a friend or relative and been unable to visit them as they were dying or attend a funeral because they have a moral compass and did follow the rules will be absolutely livid at this dissembling, pathetic little man who believes he's done no wrong.

Didn't seek medical advice to go to Durham despite worries about having Covid, but needed it to go back to London having been ill but not tested for having Covid.

Some size of a tank this car has - 270 + 60 + (maybe) another 270.

"Dangerous" for someone in London to visit/call at house to look after his child, but not for people in Durham?

Hardy boys, these Geordies!

Is it a Discovery he drives?

Fuel tank and turning circle

The Discovery is well prepared for long treks in the countryside thanks to a fairly large fuel tank. Actual fuel-tank size varies depending on the engine you pick, but the smallest is a substantial 77 litres and the largest is a whopping 90 litres. That’s roughly similar to what the Q7 and XC90 have. Theoretically, you can go around 730 miles between fill-ups if you go for a 2.0-litre diesel Discovery.
