When we do return it will be mainly assessment and finishing course content - with a relatively short time frame left to do this.
pub car king
So I live in tier 4 Englandshire. Just had an email from the primary school. They were due to start back on Tuesday but just had an email saying that unless you are a "critical" worker (whatever that is) as opposed to key worker don't bring them back.

As you say 'if' the face to face return is early Feb, that leaves Feb, March and maybe the start of April to (realistically) piece together the evidence required for estimates, from Nat 5 to Advanced Higher. A decision on exams earlier in the year would have enabled schools to have enough evidence potentially built up by now.
D.A.F.C
No communication or any idea what’s happening from work. Schools still off but parents not told either way what to do. We eventually shut last time but now some covid safety stuff is in place so no idea if we will open if lockdown is announced. If furlough money is there then with parents off we could go down to a skeleton staff, would be ok with that. Seems a bit unfair but what else can you do if both parents work.
D.V.T.
Looking at school (summer) holidays lengths in weeks across Europe.... Italy-14 weeks Spain-13 weeks Greece-13 weeks Finland 11 weeks Portugal-11 weeks Sweden-10 weeks Ireland-9 weeks Scotland-6 weeks (was cut to 5 this past year) So, if we take the upper numbers, Italian and Spanish pupils are on holiday for 7 or 8 weeks longer than in Scotland. (in the summer), The time for which schools used online learning between March and June was 13 weeks. Average holiday times in the rest of Europe at other times of the year are generally 2 weeks at Christmas, (same as Scotland), 2 weeks in Spring (same as Scotland), one week in autumn (generally the same as Scotland). In other words, Scotland still has among the shortest school holidays compared with Europe overall. https://eacea.ec.europa.eu/national-policies/eurydice/sites/eurydice/files/school_calendar_2018_19_final_report_0.pdf We are consistently told by governments that children have already missed too much school/education (over that 13 weeks between March-June, which equates to one term). Yet across Europe schools were also online in the March-June period, and then had their sometimes double summer holiday on top. Countries such as Finland and Sweden (with 5 weeks additional school holiday to Scotland) consistently outperform us. So,......is it still the case that educational standards would be unable to 'catch up' if schools moved online for an additional couple of weeks? when other countries with significantly shorter classroom terms don't seem to facing the same issues? I accept the fact that there remains a gap in IT provision for those with access to online learning and those without which is an important factor. (the SG said this would be addressed last summer....it hasn't been). The bold Italians taking 3 and half months off for summer. No. You'd imagine the season will be shelved for clubs outside the top flight asap, or compulsory testing brought in.
strichener
Looks like India are manufacturing 50m AZ vaccines a month with plans to ramp it up to 100m. Makes our production look really poor.
Sergeant Wilson
BBC reporting the Edinburgh Zoo pandas might get sent back because we can't afford the rent. You'd think the Chinese might have given us a few months free, all things considered. (Can't post a link)

No. They declared independence since then. Then again, we did build the railways that they will probably use to move these vaccines about the place. Therefore not only should we not pay them but I am sure there is a clause that states they should pay us the transport costs of getting these vaccines to us. Worth investigating I think.

Given that the UK stole an estimated $45 trillion from India over 173 years we should probably keep schtum about potential bills.
