This guy is a complete fucking fruitloop with a clear agenda to be honest. He's using places like Micronesia and Vanuatu to extoll the virtues of pursuing Zero Covid, FFS. The majority of countries with a rise in cases on his list are doing so because of easing of restrictions without a vaccine programme that has been implemented more than a small fraction at this point. What is happening is exactly what you'd expect to happen given we've seen it happening already when restrictions are lifted. This guy is using countries like Romania that has vaccinated 4.5% of it's population to date or Spain who have vaccinated 2.1m of it's 47m residents to try and drive home what people know, that less restrictions = more cases. Interestingly, he's quick to claim that this upward trend could the 'The Variants' kicking in but no mention of the far more likely probability of it not being variants, but a population nowhere near the level of vaccination required to open up and expect anything other that increased cases. Nor any mention of places where there is a steady and sustained decline in cases thanks to the vaccine rollout.
Michael W
The UK's lockdown is also one of the harshest in Europe. There's a natural level of infection that will always reside reflecting the degree of ongoing activity allowed, and when restrictions are loosened, that will inevitably increase. I can't claim to know for absolute certain but I also think many of the countries listed aren't exactly ploughing on with the vaccination programme.

One thing about it was that it was considered to avoid natural immunity. Manaus had ~70% infected in their first wave (figure not exact but was still a hell of a lot) and the new variant that arose quite easily re-infected those who had already had the initial strain ie prior disease was not a guarantee of immunity) This is controllable with a little effort even if it does spread further than the < a handful of cases extant atm. The vaccines, while not as good at bodying this variant as the others, are effective towards it. What won't work is sticking our fingers in our ears and going lalalalala fear porn dEVi sRIdHar etc. There's no reason to believe this will become an issue, but it is exactly the type of scenario that scientists etc have been warning about that has been being dismissed as hyperbolic hysteria. And of course its exactly why scientists are holding off on the Cubans, and working on new vaccines and tweaks. This with bells on. -

I didn't read anything under the first tweet, if I'm being honest, I just looked at the nice wee graph. I looked at it, and the article on the BBC news about what kind of restrictions there are in the rest of Europe https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/explainers-53640249, and thought, this particular lockdown has been absolute dug-shite but I'm confident that (waste of time quarantine rules apart) we are heading towards having a good summer here in the UK. Maybe no foreign holidays, but I'll take that right now if we can at least do things here in the summer. AllSaint
Thankfully are scientists are working hard to combat against the very thing they said would happen instead of sitting around howling to the moon about cigars. Again: none of these variants are suddenly going to become the dominant lineage here or in most other places, and certainly not as we approach northern hemisphere spring and summer. The vaccines also still work a treat at preventing hospitalisations and deaths, and in any case, boosters to cover these will be ready by autumn. No vaccine is going to meaningfully prolong the timeline of the pandemic. But yes, we have to be aware of these things in the same way we monitor which strains of influenza are in circulation. I know it has, (that's why I put what I did in the parenthesis) iirc it was arrived at due to studies of blood donors - nonetheless, it is generally accepted they had an extremely large percentage of people infected, to the extent that they would have not been as bodied by the follow up wave without the new variant having some resistance to immunity gained from previous infection. As far as I'm aware, subsequent studies have found the E444k mutation is not quite as susceptible to vaccines 1.0, and also it has been confirmed that the initial virus also doesn't confer complete immunity to variants with this particular mutation. In fact, is it not the case that it's this specific mutation that the tweaks that are currently being rolled out and expected to go live in autumn are designed to combat.

Find the c**t.They know who he is, it appears they don't know where he is though. Says he failed to record his negative test entry requirement so how the hell did he get past border control who should be checking for proof of a negative test plus his PLF to allow entry to UK. That was a requirement well before mandatory hotel quarantine. Also either he lied about his address on the PLF or didn't have it either. Staggering really.

I couldn't give a toss about right-wing nutjobs who do not favour lockdowns because there are plenty of non right-wing reasons to justify punting this utter shite in the bin at the earliest possible moment as well. Which for certain regions of Scotland, should in fact be 'right now'. Edited February 28, 2021 by vikingTON
