The government have outlined their strategy going forward, thats all at this point. What, when and how has not been discussed. It’s likely they will start addressing this in August/September, certainly nothing will be implemented until 70-80% are vaccinated. At best we will see an easing of things October-December but more likely 2022 which was always the plan. Even that may not play out as we have numerous cases of double jabbed people getting covid in recent days. For now nothing changes. One of our neighbours in the block opposite were taken away on friday evening by medics in HAZMAT gear with suspected covid and then security barring anyone to enter or leave while the whole place was cleaned and now just waiting on confirmation whether it is covid or the sniffles. Tbf, even in cases where they may 'test positive' if they're screened, the chances of them even knowing they have the virus or of them spreading it is vastly reduced and bordering on irrelevant. People being asymptomatic post-vaccination is still a stunning success. 2 hours ago, Bob Mahelp said: It's an interesting move appoint Javid as health secretary. Does anyone know if he's a hawk or dove when it comes to lockdown regulations ? If rumours are true, one of the reasons the UK is opening up travel slower than the EU and the USA is because Hancock was bitterly opposed to loosening travel restrictions. If it's the case that Javid is much more in favour of getting rid of restrictions, then we could well see a massive leap forward here. Of course, that's if anyone out there wants visitors from our pox-ridden island, thanks to the Johnson trade deal/delta variant. *I think* Javid is more 'lockdown sceptical', and well, his background is in economics... Please explain how the SG positively encouraged a London exodus.

Not debating that either way (although these are not particularly screened cases, but people going to the doctors/hospital with Covid symptoms). Just making a statement of fact that double jabbed people are getting the virus in numerous cases in the past few weeks and that may well impact the always cautious Singapore government in their opening plans.
Thereisalight..
It's quite clear (if it wasnt so already) that the govt was scaremongering about the severity of Covid and the need for certain restrictions when - Cummings was travelling for hours despite us having to "stay at home, save lives, protect the NHS". Then the small matter of couples not living together being told to be careful yet the bold Matt was shagging a random non wife. No variants can save their lies now. mizfit
I wouldn’t say the govt overestimated how deadly the virus was. We’ve still seen a significant number of deaths. What I would say, is they should have been better prepared for the 2 variants that impacted us after the initial wave. That’s completely fucked us.

The "first variant" coincided perfectly with the normal winter respiratory virus period. The "second variant" has been a complete non-event. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of variants. Each as shan as the last. The calamitous error was in failing to recognise that young, otherwise healthy, people becoming infected with Covid-19 was not a bad thing, and keeping restrictions in place last summer. Due to the structure of our vaccination programme it is the lack of immunity in that age group that is currently driving the cases (and causing the Lovejoys to panic); something that would be impossible had we allowed natural immunity to build up last summer. The UK & ScotGov know this too, hence why they don't really give any fucks about cases anymore.

peasy23
Surely what we are seeing is a progression at time moves on? Or are you advocating we stick with the current restrictions?I think what everybody who has commented on the rugby wants to know is where is the consistency? Seems it's ok to have 12000 at Hampden or a decent crowd on the swally at Murrayfield, but there seems to be no plans to change the 250 to 500 limit for crowds elsewhere, especially at other levels of football.

ICTChris
I was up in Fountainbridge last night and pubs and restaurants were heaving with Lions fans, clearly few of whom were local to Murrayfield. Considering one reason given for restrictions in attending football was that people would travel to games and socialise before and after them I assume that if the game yesterday, a test event, doesn’t cause significant numbers of cases then we can expect this to accelerate the return to football normality?
Guest
Surely what we are seeing is a progression at time moves on?
