We didn't know all that much about the pandemic at that point - all we had to go on was the official advice. G51
Just now, Detournement said: You could already see in March from the figures in other countries how it was effecting different age groups. But we didn't really know to what extent, and we certainly didn't know just how low the risk of socialising outside was. Even as recently as August/September, there was still a lot of uncertainty about it. It's quite common that people make a decision that was correct with hindsight, but was wrong according to the information they had at the time. It doesn't mean they made a good decision, it means they got lucky.

There is no justification for continued disproportionate restrictions in order to keep the other 1% safe. Admittedly Mrs Ranter was kinda distracting me by asking "what did he just say there?" several times, but I never heard him say about foreign travel. Yeh i think thats sensible enough, hopefully though countries will look at the vaccination rates and the effectiveness and for once british tourists will look an attractive prospect. 4 hours ago, Boghead ranter said: JL on Radio Scotland saying zero Covid is unlikely for a long, long, long time. But then adding that it's still something the world should aim for. Hahahahaha Look, im gonna buck the trend, im hopeful nicola will see sense tomorrow, tell us what steps we’ll take, tell us the criteria, win back support and get people behind you. I dont genuinely think anyone will if criteria are laid out actually expect firm dates, just indicative, be clear about indicative status and give people hope. Boris is a fucking arsehole and none of this is ‘good work’ from him, he should get f**k all credit for this roadmap, this is the likes of whitty et al and civil servants doing the hard work.

buchan30
The amount of hours of my life i lost last year trying to calm my hysterical partner was outrageous As soon as the china news started ramping up then onto Italy she was convinced it meant certain death and the end of society Not to that extent, but i did fear how bad it would be when i seen the pictures from italy. Never went full lovejoy on it, but it did show admittedly, the worst case scenario. As the months went on, i relaxed a bit more (not to the extent of breaking rules) but certainly to the extent of not wiping the shopping down. Etc.

Have some faith in Magic
I had to get a plane down to England for work in early March. Anyone that cleared their throat was getting daggers from the rest of the plane.

Gaz
The benefit of hindsight means it's easy to look back at what folk were saying about this last March and heap scorn on them. But I think that's a bit unfair. We'd just found out that China - a country not particularly renowned for its openness with other countries - had been seemingly getting ripped apart by a previously unknown virus. Countries were beginning to shut their borders while our imbecilic Prime Minister was allowing any old c**t to fly into the country and boasting about shaking hands with Covid patients. We were seeing live video of overfilling hospitals and morgues in Italy. We were seeing video of army trucks scooting around deserted neighbourhoods with megaphones on telling folk to go home. It's easy to look back and now think "HAHA REMEMBER WHEN EVERYONE OVERREACTED" but at the time it was like nothing any of us had ever seen before.
