Watching STV news just now and they’re interviewing 2 people who were in ICU and have both recovered. Both in their 50’s and I bet you can’t guess what their body shape is?

Yet to see any of these cases of young fit healthy people or even youngish not overweight people in ICU or dying.

It can happen to anyone!!!!

Or maybe just maybe they're afraid of the fall out if they class certain people as vulnerable so they make out it can be anyone.

Imagine doughnuts were licenced like booze. An extremely overweight person goes up to the counter and told "think you've had enough mate" and refused service while loudly protesting that they only had one in Greggs before that.

"What you been up to tonight lads?"

"Just having a salad at home. We split a portion of oven chips too, but that's all"

"Aye OK, in you come"

SOUND THE VARIANT KLAXON.

What an utterly pathetic piece of 'journalism' that is.
In essence scientists have discovered three cases of a virus strain that might be able to "partially dodge the vaccines" by way of having the E484K mutation despite none of these 3 cases showing this mutation and the fact that both the Pfizer and AZ vaccines have been shown to be effective against other strains that have this same mutation.
Desperate stuff.

Surely a third wave won't affect us if the vaccines are working? High case numbers won't matter if no one is dying and hardly anyone is in hospital.

I think we might be in for a surprise, given how many haven't been fully vaccinated and that practically noone under 50 has been given any sort of vaccine yet.

Unlike much of Europe, the UK has been in lockdown since early January, which at this point accounts for the reduction in cases, rather than the vaccine.

We might get 'a surprise' by an increase in cases. However, so long as these don't translate to hospitalisations (and, given who has been vaccinated they shouldn't) then it's not an issue.

Any updates on the hospital and icu numbers?

Still falling?

Surely there's a clear link to the success of the vaccine, now? Cases are no really longer dropping.

Actually a slight increase in today's Scottish reported hospital number. Up 9 to 353. ICU up 2 to 33.
Even accepting that slight rise the hospital number is down by almost 100 in the last week and down hugely (by 1700) from the peak of 2053 on 22nd January. Today’s figure hopefully just a blip with more decreases going forward.
The 7 day average for deaths is 6 having been 60 near the end of January.

Holidays abroad to be made illegal.

Anyone got any recommendations for holiday's in Ayrshire or Fife?

The sooner the Coronavirus Act is repealed and this sort of "massively disproportionate fine by decree' consigned to the dustbin of history, the better.

Maybe I've just had a long day, but the snarling authoritarian streak on display in the last 12 months has been disturbing. And they've been nodded along all the way by so-called Liberals.

Probably a good reason for that. Likely the same reason that any sportsperson who tests positive spends the full time in self-isolation updating their Instagram etc, before miraculously escaping LoNg CoViD!!1! to return to elite level sports as soon as they are allowed out.

Boy at my work who is an absolute bed wetter was trying to use that laughable 'NFL players getting exploding hearts' paper last year to claim that no-one is safe. 😅

Is it really such a bad thing that all of these variants have essentially the same mutations? Seems fairly predictable.

Yes, it's called convergent evolution, and it's what should eventually stop the mewling about variants and mutations once the vaccines are updated:
