Much as I despise Rees Mogg they're just doing what any investment firm should be doing, partly to stop people's pensions taking a kicking. It's not like they were shorting airlines before 9/11.

What absolute nonsense. Private equity firms using their collective financial clout to short companies can send people out of work at perfectly viable businesses or send them to the wall entirely - so much for their pensions then. That is the direct cost of the massive economic volatility that these vultures are seeking to exploit.

She has to go, her credibility is completely gone after this.   In her position she has to lead by example, she did not, she has made a massive error of judgement and should resign.

Her credibility had went more than a week ago if you had heard her car crash of a interview defending Prince Charles getting a test when health workers were unable to get one

In this case there wasn't any mention of shorting, just buying at what they hope is the bottom of the market.

They directly contribute to dragging it to the bottom in the first place by shorting targeted firms. That is how it works.

The hypocrisy of the media is infuriating though.

Live broadcasts from the Scottish Parliament building with absolutely no social distancing in evidence.

Newsrooms in clear view during broadcasts with no social distancing.

Daily live broadcasts from directly outside Hampden. Why exactly is this essential.

It's a shambles.

Gordon if you're going to highlight the serious nature of this one in a lifetime pandemic then surely you want the very top people involved in the key decisions?

She's made a horrible error. But if she's the best in her field then why should there be a clamour for her to resign?

This is too serious to punt experts based on PR gaffes.

You're divorcing too readily the PR  from the Doctory stuff, for want of a better expression.

Of course she's very learned and eminent in her field.  Right now though, that high level of expertise is important because it earns her trust in advising the population on how to behave.  The trust has at least been very badly damaged.

PR is not a side issue as regards public health at a time like this; it's absolutely central.

If she can still function here, but without a public role, then that might still be worth having.  If the CMO dare not be wheeled out in front of people though, that is a problem.

Journalism is (quite rightly) essential according to the guidelines.

Aye but do they really need live broadcasts from outside an empty football stadium? Hardly essential

These reporters are doing my nut in.  The CMO situation has been discussed, Sturgeon has nailed her colours to the mast, and yet they continue to ask the same question over and over.

It was bound to happen,  with the growing anger over this her only course of action is to resign as she's became the story now.

Lost a fair bit of respect for Nicola Sturgeon over this.
