Hearts Victory Thread (featuring Hamilton Academical)

Recommended Posts

Disappointed to concede the equaliser so late on but playing with ten men for so long in those conditions, the team did well.

Ex Referee Brian Winter said young Hamilton should have had a booking at most and if we had retained eleven on the pitch,we would have scored again as the Hearts defence was a shambles.

Many twists and turns to come in the race at the bottom.

Sitting level with it I was convinced at the time that Ogkmpoe was offside for the opening goal and can’t decide whether it would be more annoying to be subsequently proved right or proved wrong

To be honest it turns out to be less annoying and more of a relief to know that this wasn’t a bizarre hallucination

But for brief heads gone moments from Branescu and Hamilton, Hearts would be starting down the barrel of two consecutive heavy pumpings at home against sides in the bottom six. They're chucking in goals left, right and centre.

Stendel might well still save them, but the suggestion that they are harder to beat seems a bit off to me.

You are, I'd be amazed if your rate of conceding isnt much, much higher per game now than it was under Levein.

Statistically St Johnstone have the worst performing keeper in the league, yet have a manager competent enough to build a side who can prevent teams scoring and give themselves a chance of winning. Stendel has you shipping about 2/3 goals a game, you're never going to win games regularly like that.

It's bad management, and it's just daft to pin that entirely on a goalkeeper/defence/previous manager, who weren't having the same issues before Stendel was appointed.

You can now directly compare Leveins 11 games this season to Stendels.

Levein has 1 win, 5 losses, 10 goals scored, 15 goals conceded, 8 points.

Stendel has 1 win, 6 losses, 14 goals scored, 21 goals conceded, 7 points.

Theres only so much blame you can shift away from Stendel surely? He signed multiple players he apparently targeted and got his main target in Boyce, and also has Souttar/Naismith/Washington to play with where Levein didnt.

There's something in what you're saying, but Levein most definitely was having the same issues. The result against Hamilton yesterday was the same as the one Levein got earlier in the season and featured similarly calamitous defending. The Motherwell and Ross County home games were also very similar performances. He did respond to this and tightened us up at the back in his last few matches but it came at the expense of losing all attacking threat - we scored one goal in his last five and barely threatened to at any point. When MacPhee came in it was back to horrific defending (13 goals conceded v Rangers X2, Killie and St Mirren).

It's also not really true to say that their records can be definitively compared because they've had the same number of games, given that they comprised different fixtures. Since Levein got the full first round of games and we're now into the third round of games, we can compare like-for-like fixtures, though. In the games v Rangers (h), St Johnstone (a), Killie (h), Celtic (a) and Hamilton (h), Levein got 2 points and Stendel 5. Both shite returns and it's a small sample, but Stendel does better on that measure.

I agree that our current defensive set-up isn't sustainable if we want to actually stay up, though, and it's Stendel's responsibility to address that. Despite all our problems, getting relegated with this squad would be inexcusable.

Which is exactly what TW done to us, and once the goals stopped going in, and confidence returned, he opened us up again.

It's hard not to draw parallels.

Preston was desperate for it to be all Stendel's fault, slating him for speaking to players during the game because 'the work should have been done in the dressing room' seems a bit bitter and wants the guy to fail, that's how it comes across.

Preston is bitter as no one will take him on , Flucky Cup win for Livvi, then binned for being shite !! [emoji460]️

David Hay was in charge for that cup final. Preston took over a bit later and has one of the worst ever records for a permanent manager in the top flight.

Aye there's no chance that was a sending off, incredibly harsh on the kid and hope its overturned on appeal.

That'll be the same Brian Winter that issued 2 yellow cards to a player and forgot to send him off...aye right then

This proves absolutely nothing TBF.

It's very hard to tell from here as it looks like the ball has already been played.

The fact Ogkmpoe is in a different postcode to the defender is irrelevant if he isn't closer to the goal than the ball.

He looks to be offside there, but it's a pointless image as the ball has clearly already been played.

Let’s be real, Hamilton were lucky to get a point yesterday. We missed a barrel of chances and their goalie was easily their best player. I’m not up nor down to say, Hamilton will be bottom come the end of the campaign.

Fair point apart from the fact our keeper was nowhere near our best player. He only made about 3 regulation saves.

Lets be real if it wasnt for Kevin Clancy Hearts would have been 4 points adrift at the bottom.
