The SPFL recommendation?

Recommended Posts

Why are we all racing to finish the season.

Wait and see what happens and decide once the virus is finished.

Imagine the restrictions lift in march 2021. We all gonna fight over whether the season can be finished or not? We playing a 9 game season?

Patience is key. Spfl need to pay out everyone based on coming last in the league and see what happens from there

Raith are not coming out of this looking good. Chairman on sky sports news pleading with clubs to hand them the title and their players are having pops at folk suggesting it should be otherwise. Desperation. Would another year at this level be the end of full time for you or something?

We've played you twice away for starters and yet we're only one point behind. Trying to say that's a level playing field is nonsense.

Just think, if you even took a single point in the 3 meetings against us this season you'd be top and shouting for the season to end now!

For any team currently sitting from 2nd to 9th, what exactly is the difference between calling it quits and having promotion/relegation and going for null and void? Going to be in the same league regardless? Teams in first will probably be in favour of promotion, teams in tenth won’t be, pretty irrelevant to everyone else.

Well for null and void, if the season is wiped from the books, I don't imagine any prize money will be handed out to clubs that are now relying on it to survive

If restrictions dont lift until March next year, a 9 game season will probably look extravagant for the number of clubs still around to compete.

Aye, ok.

Can someone explain to me why the spfl recommendation  has to contain anything regarding promotion/relegation/playoffs etc anyway? Is it not far easier just to put a vote to end the league on the said day in march up with prize money allocated as is?  No decision on who goes up or down as that can then be discussed over the coming weeks/ couple of months. I'm sure going by the number of clubs publicly basing their decision on the good of scottish football that this would pass no bother. Clubs then have their cash and no future decision is clouded by clubs panicking over needing to agree something or go down the swanny.  A decent conversation can then be had on how scottish football moves on from here and no decision is rushed through.

Of course the probable  reason why the above isn't on the table is because the top flight clubs are shitting themselves in case the smaller clubs use league reconstruction as a bargaining chip in this whole affair.  With the proposal as is lower league clubs are fighting amongst themselves and theres no chance of them getting together and putting pressure on the top flight.

Our chairman doesn't come out of that interview great to be honest.  Does smack a bit of desperation.

I'd have far more respect if he just came out and said look it's good for us so we're voting for it what do you expect. No problem with that at all but this for the good of the game shite is just complete cobblers.

Its fascinating reading that Record article vs. Tom English's article where he reckons the lower two leagues would fall into line, but reading the Record article it looks like league 1 has the No votes to sink it.

Will be interesting to see what happens next if that is the case. Still feel theres a better proposal out there if some clubs would just bite the bullet for a wee bit longer.  Too many desperate to take the first offer they get which is strange considering how many clubs are owned by supposed business men.

Tom english is a clueless fuckwit who has no idea about scottish football below the top 12. He's a rugby man at the end of the day and should be nowhere near commenting on Scottish football as a whole.

True enough.

Am I right in saying that reconstruction is one of those issues the top league needs an 11-1 split on to vote for?

League One and Two are combined, yet the Record are claiming they're voting separately, if that helps clear up how much you can believe them.

Yeah, very true of course. Our chairmen reckoned after the last conference call that at least three league 1 sides would vote no. Which only leaves two more dissenters from the rest of league 1 and 2.

Cant see it passing based on that.

I was just about to seek clarification on that. Whilst that kind of sloppiness is typical, the quotes seem pretty clear cut (if they are public 'on the record' - which they appear to be?).

Jim Duffy with the most astonishing comment of any. ‘Just play midweek to catch up’. What a fucking idiot.

We’ll need to come back with either a permanent reconstruction offer or no relegation. Either would get it over the line by the look of the comments in that Record article, with Jim Duffy wandering around his local park lamenting that the kids don’t play football outside anymore.
