They finished a single point in front of Ayr and 4 in front of Arbroath (who had played a game less). Favourites, probably, but certainly not 'massive' favourites. If only teams played the same way every season, you'd have a point.

It took Dundee United 4 years doing just that. The Championship is about as unpredictable as it gets.

In the last 3 years they had Hibs, St Mirren (who were a surprise package but a big club at that level) and County to deal with. Dundee wouldn’t have those types of challenges. Thistle and Falkirk would hardly pose a threat.
Ludo*1
To try and say we'd not be massive favourites to win the league in a division that poor on paper is trolling. That's not to say we would actually win it as we love a f**k up, but that doesn't change the fact we'd be comfortably massive favourites.

They'll be favourites, but how will they be 'massive' favourites? Dundee will still have McPake in charge remember.

Did Falkirk not get rejected into the SPL due to stadium criteria ?

The division is clearly absolute garbage but you’ve still got a very meh squad, a dud of a manager and an idiot of a DOF (or whatever Strachan actually does) You’d be favourites, but not overwhelmingly so.

Who'd be a likely challenger on paper? You've also got no idea what Strachan's role is so that's hardly relevant either.

Biggest team by far obviously If we're being honest, the fact that we will have the biggest budget by a country mile, and that we already have a settled squad of professional players that can be afforded to us, with the ability to add more, whereas most other teams might struggle to get equivalent squads settled into the team. Sure, the inexperience factor is there and would be the biggest uncertainty for the squad, but considering the manager now having a first season under his belt there is now room for progression, and that could go either way as far as we know. Quite frankly, if 14-10-10-10 passes and we still don't win the league next season, it will be worse than any season United couldn't win it.
Ric
Shouldn't "who'd be favourites for the Championship" chat be in the Championship forum? Take the Hearts boys with you, while you're at it..
Theroadlesstravelled
All this to save Hearts. If it was a small club like St Murn or Hamilton they would have been flushed away weeks ago and we'd have moved on.

The division is weak enough that with enough shuffling around it could be one of about 7 teams. I don’t even see Falkirk challenging as being that much of a surprise, it only takes a few decent additions at this level. My apologies “Technical Director” Gordon Strachan is involved.

On the pitch another team can easily win the league. Of course they can. Budgets etc don't mean everything - just look at when United finished 3rd behind Livi and St Mirren. They were still the massive favourite for the title at the start of the season though. He's not though. He has f**k all to do with any first team affairs.
D Angelo Barksdale
Dundee will short priced, odds on favourites to win the Championship if Hearts and Inverness aren't in it. Not that they'll end up reflecting that of course.

Dundee are absolutely favourites for it but not overwhelmingly so, and with the way the league has gone recently I certainly wouldn’t be betting on it. I will chuck football altogether if Falkirk get saved by this and end up legitimate title challengers. f**k that.
Bohemian
If the championship is shortened anything could happen.. anyone hitting even a short burst of form is in with a chance.. it could be Carnage next season

Injury to a key player could see them miss a much higher percentage of the season than normal for example. Even smaller things like suspensions have a bigger effect.
