Andrew Waddell gave United a penalty at Celtic Park in the Scottish Cup quarter Final in season 1995/96 I remember.

Was initially saved but the rebound scored to put United 1-0 up.

Celtic scored on 89 and 90 to win 2-1 😭😭😭

And the keeper that saved the penalty it never got sent off for the foul. (3mins) https://youtu.be/gMCmKUcrHgw

It's not just in the league though, the 2008 League Cup final was near enough as bad as the McCurry Ibrox game. Referred by known RFC fan Kenny Clark. The tackle on Kalvenes by Broadfoot was "assualt" and then the two handed "rugby tackle" by Carlos Cueller on Kalvenes in the box. Both no foul given.

Those are the games that killed the stupid idea in my head that one day some other club might win the league if the stars aligned.

The stars would end up getting booked and there would be a penalty to The Rangers/Celtic.

Both clubs are as horrible as the other and both as horrible as the dead club formerly known as Glasgow Rangers. And the fact all three have relied on dodgy referee decisions as often as they have given the gulf in finances is genuinely both funny and sad at the same time. And shows why they are duds when it comes to Europe.

There's no earthly possibility of any club outside there gruesome twosome ever winning the league again and it has nowt to do with cheating refs.

Could we scrape together a league winning team of amazing youth prospects? Nope. They look any good at all and they get hoovered up after a few games, if that - see Kerr Smith.

The best team we've had in 25 years was in 2013/14 where a whole host of stars aligned - the best 3 talents through the youth team in years came to the fore in Armstrong, Gauld and Souttar. We brought in great talents like Robertson and Ciftci alongside the existing GMS. Had a core of solid players like Rankin, Dillon, Wilson and Cierzniak. Goodwillie and Gomis who were the returning saviours ended up being a bit-part players.

What happened? We finished 32 points behind Celtic, sold off all the talent and got relegated two years later.

Without a billionaire investing in another of the SPFL, we're doomed to this never-ending charade.

The big problem is the budgets. If we get a good team, we get a good first 11, with some decent backup and youth. Those 2 have a good first 11 AND if they get injuries/suspensions get to bring in players of equal standing to replace them so don't end up weakened. Also the fact us "diddies" have to play them 4 times means that in general they will always pull away in ways that only playing each other twice wouldn't allow if a challange of sorts was put in. No getting away from it though budgets of 17 times greater than the 3rd largest budget comes into it, although having a little less of an "already beaten before taking the field" attitude would help as it is only 11 v 12 in games between them ;)

The cups is where we can win, but the decisions we have all had to face over the years against either, never mind the ends farce, means it is difficult.

Well, there was a mega rich bloke that invested in a club in Scotland and it looked like they would get close to doing it and then he hit the self destruct button...

But my point is that games like that crush even the very thought of dreaming of seeing someone outside of the Glasgow cartel winning top spot. We all know if any team, say Aberdeen, Hearts (or whoever )managed to cobble together a good squad on decent money they'd have more dodgy decisions against them in more games than just the OF ones.

It really renders it all pointless and leaves third place the best anyone can hope for. Even though its been that way for nearly 40 years its still shite.

Thats probably the biggest issue really. There's always a money and a talent advantage, even a fitness advantage but the biggest advantage they have over the smaller teams seems to be an attitude or application advantage (aside from the last minute penalty when required).

I've seen many worse Utd teams than the 2010 team or the McNaFortune team run the OF close (or even beat them - look at this season!) till the very end because they were mentally strong and were up for the fight (combined with them being a bit off the boil or not at 100%). Thats more important than talent in many situations. Strike the balance either over the season or even on the day and you end up with a good chance.

Daly missed one at Parkhead around 2012-2013 if I recall correctly. Genuinely can't remember the last penalty we had at Ibrox, although we've had no shortage of good claims. The Mike McCurry game particularly springs to mind.

Tbf, it's not just an Ibrox or Parkhead issue. We don't/didn't get penalties against Celtic or Rangers at Hampden either.

This is factually incorrect.

I attended a match at Hampden against Celtic where we got so many penalties, everyone in the team got to take one, and Willo Flood even took 2…

Was that the day before he signed for them?

He didn't sign a pre contract
