Genuine question why does a place have to be found for mctominay is it just because he is on the books of man united although not a regular in recent times.

Going to hazard a guess at him being one of the best defensive midfielders that Scotland have. If we're talking about players who shouldn't be guaranteed a place then Calum McGregor ticks every box for me, with James Forrest not far behind.

Really wish we would stop shoehorning players into positions to suit 2 players.

Tierney left centre back in a 2 with Cooper for me if not then McKenna and Cooper and drop Tierney to the bench and get Robertson actually playing left back.

Tierney at LB. Robertson was absolutely pish on Friday and deserves to be dropped.

Well play Tierney at RB or CB then. A world class player out of position can be better than an average player in position.

Robertson isn't world class though. Van Dijk bailes him out constantly for liverpool,  we don't have anyone who can do this for Scotland.

Changing formations is a normal and acceptable thing to do but you need to pick them to suit your players.

The Robertson/Tierney thing is a difficult choice for the manager but Jack or McTominay in the middle of the park isn't. Forrest behind McGinn on the right wing isn't.

If a coach pulls something out the ordinary and the team win then they deserve praise for seeing something that most don't but when the team that is picked has so many questions about who and why they are playing then concerns over the choice of the team are acceptable.

McGinn playing as basically a second striker is an example of him changing things up and playing someone in a position they've never played before and it working out well. There's nothing wrong with experimenting, the problem is if you keep persisting with it when the evidence suggests it isn't a good idea.

We haven't seen that in a Scotland jersey,McTominey didn't pick his runner up in the costa rica game and played his part in losing a goal.
He is not playing for Man Utd hes playing for Scotland, he is very tidy player on the ball but without the ball he is mince.

Robertson looks distinctly average when he doesn't have world-beaters all around him.
