Oof. The linked New Yorker piece gives a bit more. https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/an-air-force-combat-veteran-breached-the-senate
Forest_Fifer
"Brock claimed he merely picked the zip ties up off the floor." Sounds legit. "the zip ties were just resting in my hand"Oh and he only wore tactical gear in case those nasty antifa people were there to fight back.

I do get the impression they were expecting counter protestors to be there and to have some kind of rumble, maybe even a diversionary rumble. We're there not shouts of where are antifa etc? One of the few actual plans the DC police had was how to split the lines of various sides and form a line between them
Distant Doonhamer
Whats the betting that Trump pardons the rioters? Not a chance. They won’t be found guilty of anything while he’s still President.

He can make a presumptive pardon. Already shown how that can be done previously.

Probably find he always dresses that way even when he is sitting at home eating popcorn and watching the TV.

welshbairn
What they're worrying about, they were complaining about being banned from having a voice, now it's just got a lot louder. Thread...
oneteaminglasgow
Dunno if this has been covered, but it seems that Parler is funded by the same people who fund Breitbart and Cambridge Analytica, and the family who introduced Trump to Steve Bannon. So aye, think we can all safely disregard their “neutral platform for free speech” schtick.

Free speech lol they banned everything but racism I think we disregarded it from the moment it was set up.
ICTChris
I read a good thread about the AWS thing with Parler. They are binning them because they refused to stop incitements to commit crimes from appearing on their platform.

If someone plans a terrorist attack on an AWS hosted website there's a risk that they will be held accountable.

I've read they also posted links to detailed drawings of the Capitol building including the tunnels underneath, which they sensibly didn't reproduce.

Says something important about the mentality of the American far right that they thought they could get away with being so brazen about this. Prancing about without a mask in a public building you are most definitely not legally allowed to break into that has security cameras all over the place is going to lead to what exactly? Anyone with the IQ of the average 10 year old should be able to grasp that it is a one way ticket to sharing a bunk bed with Bubba down at the county jail. Trump did them a major disservice by weakening Capitol security to the point that doing this was actually possible, but a malignant narcissist doesn't care less about what ultimately happens to the mugs he manipulates.

Michael W
There is a move towards making tech companies liable for content that they host (much to their annoyance), so it's no surprise that companies are starting to wash their hands of dodgy content. The days of putting their hands up and absolving themselves of blame by merely providing a service are soon to be over. Free speech is not a defence to attempted crimes such as incitement or conspiracy. Edited January 11, 2021 by Michael W
