Clown Job
Lord Gerry Grimstone, then minister for investment, asked the then Premier Leaguechairman, Gary Hoffman, in August 2020 to share the league’s legal advice on “a way forward” for the stalled takeover by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF), the documents reveal. Grimstone, a former banker with high-level contacts in Saudi Arabiaand the Gulf, who was appointed by Boris Johnson in March 2020 to attract investment to the UK, told Hoffman: “I can then confirm from the highest levels of the Saudi Government whether this is deliverable and we all will then know where this stands.” Edited September 26, 2022 by Clown Job

It is almost like he was lazily winging it or maybe he is just thick. Either way, it made for full on cringe listening.
Salt n Vinegar
Hmmm... The Government's assurances about local support for fracking being a pre-condition for it being allowed might be taking a bit of a hit, according to the Independent... Not sure if it's a lie, corruption or hypocrisy but it may be verging on giving reassurances that might not be particularly reassuring.. "Residents living close to one of the UK’s most controversial proposed fracking sites have reacted with astonishment after it emerged fracking companies themselves may be placed in charge of surveying local opinion on whether drilling should go ahead. Government sources have suggested that companies like Cuadrilla – rather than councils or any other independent body – will be mandated to test if the controversial procedure has support." Article at (but there may be a paywall? Dunno. ) - https://www.independent.co.uk/climate-change/news/fracking-public-support-lancashire-b2182883.html Nothing to see here, move on, move on.

Maybe, just maybe he realised what having a total idiot as chancellor would lead to rather than anything underhand taking place. Nah, I don't think so either!
GiGi
I don't think Kwarteng is stupid in the slightest.
Guest Jedi
Tories doing shady backroom deals with spivs and speculators shocker...is there not some rule against Chancellors tipping off their pals on what their budget announcements will be at least? Kwarteng clearly knew the pound would tank once he made his statement, and so gives his pals insider information beforehand.

No, he's not stupid, but I do think think he is going to be in the shit once the truth comes out about his tipping off of folk before the budget.

Or perhaps his announcements were not his and therefore he is both stupid (for delivering policies he doesn't believe in) and self-centred.
