FFS.  Mark-Anthony Kaye gets sent off for one of the stupidest second yellow cards you will see.  Fell for the shithousery

Absolutely.  He didn't need to go near him.  Dominated the second half and thought we deserved a goal.  Currently in Mexico on holiday so hopefully the same bar we watched the game in will have the Jamaica game on.

Whether likely or not, the fear is nonetheless present of England shanning their way to the final and Harry Maguire lifting the World Cup trophy above his head; thus breaking the sport irreparably. As many knockout specialists as possible for this reason.

I'm not surprised the England fans are lording it over Italy going out to be honest, Italy ran rings round them in the 2012 Euros, beat them in the 2014 World Cup then spanked them at home in the Euro 2020 final.

England last beat them in a competitive match in 1977, with Italy winning 6 since then (not counting the City Tournament or Tourni de France as competitive matches). Since the 70s England have lost 4 friendlies to Italy, and only won 1. And Italy opening don't give a shit about friendlies, losing to plenty of no marks over that period.

So a proper bogey team, there's little doubt even an average Italy team would steamroll England (like they did last year), it must be something psychological.

I'm not surprised their fans are celebrating.

For the benefit of our Scottish friends, basically it was like that time a few years ago when Scott Brown goaded Alfredo Morelos into doing something petulant, and then Brown went down like he was shot and Morelos got sent off

Neither am I, but it doesn't stop it being fucking tragic.

Be like Scotland fans soiling themselves with joy when Brazil got pumped 7-1 at the World Cup.

That was funny as f**k.

I was hoping ze Germans hit double figures personally, but only because that was the worst Brazil side I've ever seen and it was a scandal they made it that far.

Some hyperbole there in describing two penalty losses.

Quick state of play in the qualifiers after last night:

Asia

Qualified teams: 4

Remaining spots: 0.5

Japan's win in Australia seals a spot for both them and Saudi Arabia, joining the already qualified Iran and South Korea.

The Socceroos can still qualify, but will need to win 2 playoff matches. The first of those will be against one of UAE, Iraq or Lebanon. The winner of that game will face the South American 5th placed team in the final playoffs.

Africa

Qualified teams: 0

Remaining spots: 5

Five two-legged playoffs will determine the 5 representatives. First legs are being played today with the deciding legs on Tuesday. Today's fixtures are:

DR Congo v Morocco - 3pm

Cameroon v Algeria - 5pm

Mali v Tunisia - 5pm

Egypt v Senegal - 7:30pm

Ghana v Nigeria - 7:30pm

North America

Qualified teams: 0

Remaining spots: 3.5

With two games left in the round robin, Canada have 1.99 feet in Qatar and the USA and Mexico have 1. Costa Rice and Panama both still have a chance, but realistically they'll be focusing on finishing 4th and having a playoff against the Oceanian winner.

South America

Qualified teams: 4

Remaining spots: 0.5

Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador and Uruguay have all qualified with at least one game to spare.

Peru lead the chase for the playoff spot (Against Australia/UAE/Iraq/Lebanon), but either Colombia or Chile could pip them on the final day.

Oceania

Qualified teams: 0

Remaining spots: 0.5

Covid has wreaked all kinds of havoc on this process but they're down to the semi finals, which are being played on Sunday with the final on Wednesday

Solomon Islands v Papua New Guinea

New Zealand v Tahiti

Winner will face (most likely) either Costa Rica or Panama.

Europe

Qualified teams: 10

Remaining spots: 3

10 group winners have already qualified: France, Germany, Croatia, Serbia, England, Spain, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium and Netherlands.

The remaining three berths will be decided by the playoff final winners:

Poland v Sweden (Tuesday)

Portugal v North Macedonia (Tuesday)

Wales v Scotland or Ukraine (June)

Not really, look at the stats and reports of either game. Indeed, not even the most biased of English pundits could contend it wasn't one sided - it wasn't just that Italy deserved to win both games, they were much, much better.

I'm sure I saw a crazy stat that England only had about 10% possession for a full 40 mins of the game - which is almost unheard of at any level, never mind the final of an international tournament.

Italy dominated England in that game, almost as much as Spain dominated Italy in the semis.

Also, on a more philosophical note, would Italian fans give up the Euros win to qualify for the World Cup? I'm not sure they would. But they got their gloating in, so no issues for England fans to gloat at their exit. It doesn't look likely that they will be beating Italy any time soon so laugh it up.

Since 2000 Italy fans have seen their team win the World Cup, the Euros, and make another two Euro finals. I think they'll manage.

Some wind in Kinshasa for the DRoC v Morocco game. Having trouble keeping the ball still for corners.

DRoC 1-0 up, and Morocco absolutely spooned a terrible pelanty attempt. Nothing against Morocco, but it's about time that the home side got a proper shot at a World Cup, so hopefully it continues thusly.
